Probably a dumb question, but do you think they had mead on Paradis? I'm outline a scene where Siades is drinking but I think wine might be a tad too high class for him(as in he doesn't strike me as a wine-o). :'] (Side note but in this scene we do get a mention of something interesting going on with Carla đ)
I havenât gotten very far in my resources watch-through of AOT where I write down the resources everyone has, because Iâm trying to be extremely thorough đĽ˛
But from what Iâve seen in that watch-through so far, and remembered from my other watch-throughs, Paradis only has wine explicitly mentioned as a type of alcohol they have access to.
Itâs readily available and seems to be their main alcohol. And though wine has high-class connotations in American culture (I point this out since tmk weâre both American), in other cultures itâs The Normal Alcoholâ˘ď¸ because grapes are used for alcohol production more than other sources. America has a more of a focus on beer as The Normal Alcoholâ˘ď¸, so that doesnât really have high-class connotations, while other forms of alcohol do.
Jean explicitly mentions in season 4 when visiting Niccoloâs restaurant that they have fancier wine there, which is why heâs so excited to try it, so it seems likely that heâs used to drinking less fancy wine (wine affordable for the general population and/or cheap enough to be included in the Survey Corps budget), but thereâs also wine produced for wealthier people like nobles and high-ranking military members. This implies a large and diverse wine industry on Paradis. The fact that we never (tmk) see any other type of alcohol explicitly shown/mentioned implies that wine is the main if not only form of alcohol available on Paradis.
That being said, Iâve confirmed that they also farm wheat. Itâs entirely possible that theyâve made alcohol out of other things than just grapes, and wheat would be one of those potential things. But if thatâs the case, theyâd likely be more expensive. So beer or whiskey could also be made on Paradis. And also vodka, since they have potatoes too.
For mead, they have water and yeast 100%. But I havenât confirmed if they have bees or honey (yes, Iâve been IDing the insects lol). So mead may not be possible for them to make.
Again, Iâm still only on season 1 for my super thorough resources watch-through, so itâs entirely possible that these things are mentioned in the anime and I just havenât seen them yet.
If anyone has any evidence to suggest that Iâm wrong, PLEASE let me know!
Just saw chestnut horses on Paradis in the anime đ editing my headcanon post for Eldian horses to include that color now.
Also, becuase the mane is darker than the rest of the body, does that mean they have to be red dun (chestnut base color + dun)? We canât see their backs to see if they have a dorsal stripe, and Iâm not THAT knowledgeable about horse color genetics. Could they just be basic chestnut and still have darker manes? If they are red dun, then since the Paradisian horses have the dun gene in their gene pool, why donât we see bay dun or grullo (black dun) horses? Is it also possible that theyâre just weird bays? Anyone who is knowledgeable about horse genetics please tell me what you think these guys are
EDIT: upon further research, it seems that basic chestnuts can have darker manes. So Iâm counting these guys as plain undiluted chestnuts. This means that Eldian horses come in bay (almost all), black, grey, and chestnut, and that they lack white markings and dilution genes (other than grey)
two chestnut(?) horses and a black horse. Episode 35 - Children, 0.29.
I find it so interesting that a lot of Eren's relationship issues come down to the fact that he doesn't feel worthy. He put so much focus on his mother's words of "protect Mikasa for once" that he ended up taking the wrong message.
It is pretty obvious that her goal was to get Eren to think before he acted, but to Eren, he understood her lecture as him having a duty to protect his loved ones. It is a mindset deeply rooted in toxic masculinity.
While this post is meant to mostly focus on Eremika, I do want to note that he is also protective of Armin and I do believe that affects his relationship with him as well. Armin is physically weaker and was prone to bullying, so he was able to fulfill Eren's desire to be a hero and knight in shining armor with him easily, but with Mikasa, he felt insecure as a boy who was weaker than the girl he wanted to protect. As a result, he tries to distance himself from her to prove his capabilities as a man.
This desire is even present in the AOT School Castes au, in which he dreams of saving Mikasa and Armin from zombies all while Mikasa fawns over him and calls him "My dark knight!" He even starts crying in disappointment once he realizes his action boy mc moment is just a dream.
He feels coddled in her presence, which only reinforces his insecurities of not being good enough for her and causes him to keep pushing her away. Ultimately, Eren's toxic mindset is what screwed him over. He aspires to fulfill a role that Mikasa never wanted from him or asked for. She loved Eren regardless of who he was or what he have/will do, and he never really saw that until it was too late.
Mini analysis on Mikasa self transcendence philosophy
Nietzschean believes in order for ppl to become truly to themselves. They must free themselves from self imposed values and the illusion they created themselves.
Mikasa self imposed values/illusions:
Mikasa prioritizes protecting Eren as her purpose. to the point where she made it her "mission"
She also didn't fully understand Eren, as Eren has both sides 1. His kind side who saved her and help others. 2. His dark side that does whatever for his believe. Even killing children, innocence, etc. She only saw his good side, based on that she created her illusion of Eren, and saw him somewhat as a hero. She didn't think Eren would kill innocence. Even when he attack Liberio and got civilization involved. She took Zackly words of Eren being manipulated at truth
Because she couldn't accept the idea Eren killed civilian of his own free will.
But Mikasa was forced to confront her own self imposed values and illusion. when Eren becomes a self destructive force. He no longer aligned with her own ideology or her existentialism world view. She even starts questioning her understanding of him. Is the Eren she knew truth or illusion.
She decided to face her own self imposed values of always wanting protecting him. Before she make the decision to kill him. She accepted that he has both sides. Her decision to kill Eren isn't based on hatred. She just rejected her self imposed values and Illusion. on her own violations she has chosen preservation of humanity( Utilitarianism). Mikasa journey can also been seen as Jean-Paul Sartreâs idea that âexistence precedes essence,â meaning that individual defines "themselves". Earlier on in the story, Mikasa lives in what Sartre calls âbad faith,â avoiding her freedom by reducing herself to the role of Erenâs protector. However, when faced with an impossible choice, she experiences the full weight of existential freedom. No rule or authority can decide for her; her choice is based on her own freedom.
despite her love for him she accepted the full responsibility for her decision, Mikasa achieves what existentialists call authenticity. She defines who she is through action, even though that action brings immense personal pain.
In this way, her final choice represents both Nietzschean self-overcoming and existentialist authenticity. Mikasa reached self transcendence with her highest peak "see you later". Her self transcendence is her defining her own self and chose responsibility over her attachmen. Her character arc shows true freedom is not the absence of constraints. But the courage to do what you think is right even at the cost of profound.
Mikasa is one of the best written characters. I personally things she's top 5 in aot. but writhing is subjective and that's fine. but she's way too overhated and ppl only see her from surface level.

Eren doing the rumbling to fulfill his childhood dream with Armin and Eren wanting the freedom of Eldians arenât both mutually exclusive like how many people like to see it as.
It's canon fact that Eren was fascinated by the places in Armin's book because it promised a free mysterious world outside the cages. His definition of freedom as a child was seeing that (It's necessary to mention that he saw freedom first in Armin's eyes and he considered Armin to be one of the freest persons. His desire for freedom stemmed from the slight insecurity he experienced because of Armin). But why do we forget the effect "He was special for being born into this world" on him? It was a major catalysis for who he later becomes. He cannot accept the outside world's humanity because they are all either oppressors or complicit in it (except the victims of war and imperialism like Ramzi, Halil etc). He still clearly felt bad for destroying the world. But he carries on because it'd feel injustice for his people to subjugate themselves to be genocided by the international force. And he cannot experience the freedom he wanted since childhood if he didnât do the Rumbling. So both reasons equally play into him deciding to do the Rumbling.
So, Iâve been doing more research for my list of things on Paradis pre-contact with the rest of humanity.
My world has just been shattered. I don't think that Paradis has wolves. They have FERAL DOGS
Itâs possible that this is a unique species of canid that has floppy ears and a solid coat color due to being genetically isolated on an island and/or due to hybridization with the domestic dogs that are 100% on Paradis. But those would then either be the result of some very unlikely to evolve natural adaptations for their environment since out of all the irl canid species, only domestic dogs, domestic red foxes (Vulpes vulpes), and super rarely African wild dogs (Lycaon pictus) have floppy ears irl, and only domestic dogs have such solid coats⌠or theyâve hybridized with domestic dogs so much that theyâve been genetically swamped and no longer really exist as a distinct species anymore.
But honestly, I think itâs more likely that some of the dogs they brought from the Eldian Empire just went feral. Feral dogs can be SCARY. They DO kill people irl! And it makes sense that Paradisians, who would probably have stories and sayings involving wolves from back in the Eldian Empire, might call the very dangerous big dogs who live in packs and attack people âwolves.â
Although, the only place Iâve SEEN the animals that the Paradisians call âwolvesâ so far (Iâm not done rewatching AOT for this project) was in Mikasaâs imagination during her Lost Girls OVA, so itâs possible she never actually saw any of the âwolvesâ to know what they looked like and was just making up their appearance based on the owned and stray domestic dogs that she saw in Shiganshina (and elsewhere). This would mean that all we the audience truly know about the âwolvesâ on Paradis are that they are likely dangerous to humans, are a canid, and that they are large in comparison to a human, and thus we wouldn't know how similar they really look to domestic dogs. So thatâs another possibility.
What are your thoughts? Domestic dogs gone feral, or unique wild species of canid?

I'm genuinely curious about your thoughts on this because it kinda bugs me anytime I see it-
The theory that Grisha is the cause of the plague in Shiganshina. And here me out- This isn't just me defending Grisha 'cause I like him, I can admit that he absolutely makes mistakes and does bad things!
And I mean it is based on at least one bit of good science! Isolated populations will not have resistances to the same diseases. Titan powers aside, Grisha absolutely has resistance to diseases that the Paradisians don't.
But my main issue is that the whole thing doesn't make that much sense in my opinion... this isn't an entire ship of people coming to the walls with an unknown number of those that have fallen ill during the cramped travel. This is a singular guy who already had titan powers by the time he arrived, with no indication of being ill with anything.
And don't get me wrong you CAN spread a disease without showing symptoms. It's called being asymptomatic. But again, there is no indication of Grisha being a carrier of anything but the titan curse. Also, the people who was in immediate contact with would've been the ones to get sick, but both Keith and Hannes were completely fine, it seems.
And about the whole antibody thing, yes he needs to be exposed to it to have antibodies, but the technology for synthesizing proper antibodies was developed at least 30 years later(going by real world time). So I personally suspect was that it's either a misunderstanding of what antibodies are, or a mistranslation and the text meant that he created an antibiotic. Which, antibiotics were in a golden age in the approximate time Marley exists in, and being a doctor he'd have an understanding of what those are.
Also, you don't use antibodies to treat infections, you use antibiotics...
While the timing of the plague is very convenient, at the same time... these are medieval people living in a cramped, overpopulated area. Outbreaks are just... bound to happen in those conditions.
But I am curious as to what you think, maybe I'm just missing something. xD
I do find this theory very interesting, and Iâve reblogged posts about it in the past!
The epidemic happened in Shiganshina, the first place Grisha wouldâve arrived within the Walls, and where he lived. It happened very very soon after he arrived, too. And it was clearly something he knew how to treat, implying that he has experience treating the same or similar diseases from when he was a doctor in Marley. Other doctors on Paradis potentially struggled with treating it due to how we see people reacting to Grishaâs successful treatment, which could imply that Paradisians were unfamiliar with the disease. But thatâs an inference and not confirmed, plus it can alternatively be read as people just being surprised and grateful their loved ones survived in general, and Grisha happened to be the only doctor we saw treating it in canon due to the structure of the story while other doctors were doing just fine elsewhere in Shiganshina.
If we go with the idea that Titan-Shifters can transmit infectious diseases, then I think that a doctor who wouldâve been in close contact with diseased patients and then tortured in a probably very unsanitary location couldâve easily picked up something and brought it with him to Paradis. In that situation, if the disease was something that evolved rapidly, the Paradisians wouldâve been especially vulnerable. Itâs possible that Grisha was asymptomatic either due to luck or Titanism and did infect Paradisians with whatever he had and caused an epidemic. And itâs possible that Hannes and Kieth either got lucky or had a natural resistance or immunity to it. I think all of this happening is unlikely, though.
However, if we go with the idea that Titan-Shifters cannot transmit infectious diseases, then Grisha could not have caused the epidemic.
From my understanding, Titan-Shifters being unable to be effected by infectious diseases hasnât been confirmed as canon. I could be wrong about this, though. What I do know is that we never see Titan-Shifters get sick from an infectious disease, and we can easily infer that extreme healing of injuries and certain physical disabilities to the degree we see in canon might apply to other areas of health, like infection, as well. And this is what led to the popular headcanon that Titan-Shifters are immune to infectious diseases.
However, if we assume that this headcanon is true, which I do believe it probably is, Titan-Shifters being immune themselves doesnât necessarily mean that they canât transmit it to others. It depends on whether we go with the idea that Titanism prevents the diseases a Titan-Shifter is infected with from causing symptoms, which makes them automatically asymptomatic for every infectious disease they catch and thus can potentially still transmit it, or what I use, which is that everything a Titan-Shifterâs body recognizes as foreign gets insta-killed thanks to a fully optimized immune system (wish that was me fr). Of course, I headcanon that being due to the Parasiteâ˘ď¸ taking over the immune system and being able to tell the difference between foreign agents and the hostâs body with 100% or very very very close to 100% accuracy. But however it works isnât as important to this discussion as the effects.
So, to summarize: I think this theory is possible, but very unlikely. It depends on 1. Grisha being infected with an infectious disease shortly before his arrival in Shiganshina and remaining infected until after his arrival in Shiganshina, 2. Titanism making Titan-Shifters immune to symptoms of infectious diseases or Titanism not doing that meaning Grisha just got extremely lucky in being asymptomatic, and 3. Titanism allowing infectious diseases to survive in the bodies of Titan-Shifters long enough for them to be transmitted to others. Update: and 4. Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, and Ymir all not being infected with any infectious diseases upon their arrival to the Walls.
Outbreaks of disease happen everywhere from time to time, even in our modern day with our modern understanding of how to prevent them. I think itâs very likely that a poor district like Shiganshina in a society like Paradis just happened to have an outbreak of a particularly nasty strain of disease right after Grisha arrived, and Grisha was able to treat it very successfully due to his experience as a doctor and Marleyâs advanced knowledge of medicine. Shiganshina, like literally everywhere ever in human history, probably had regular outbreaks of disease, and this one mightâve just been especially bad.
