so yeah you can kind of tell they started to hit their stride with this movie which is a shame because it seems they’re done with this reboot? i saw something about a 4th one in development but i think that might have been abandoned. let me know if i’m wrong, i often am. 

but yeah certain aspects of this finally seemed to click. one i saw referenced often is kirk’s characterization, which i agree seems to have solidified in a good way. now his character is a few years into his mission at this point which i think makes him seem more like kirk prime so that might be what’s causing it. but i still notice differences between them (for one, aos kirk did not react when aos spock quoted shakespeare and in general aos kirk is not a theater or history nerd) and this one feels more like his own man this time, and not an obnoxious one. again, the age might contribute to that but even kirk prime could be annoying sometimes.

other characters also came into their own a bit more as well. for one, gay sulu is a huge upgrade. i’m assuming this is a shout out to george takei. but he also got to have some more cool moments as well. spock felt...better, and he also feels like a more solidified, yet different, spock. WE GOT MORE BONES!!!!! i don’t know What it is about aos bones........compels me though. his accent was consistent for most of the movie this time also. uhura got to do stuff! still wish her and spock were just besties but their relationship stuff was minimal so i managed. chekov was, once again, an absolute delight and i loved that little man. (just googled and the actor died before the movie came out? that’s so fucking sad holy shit) i also like jaylah as a character as well. crazy to think you can introduce a female character without sexualizing her but they finally did it, the bastards.

my main gripe with this movie was krall. as a villain his motivations were confusing and weak. also the whole ending sequence was weird. i understand that kirk is like a man of peace only kill when necessary whatever but if the dude is about to kill millions of people and you have the upper hand on him and all you do is STUN HIM??? and then you stand there talking to him as he holds the weapon in his hand?? BITCH IDGAF SHOOT HIS ASS!!!!! DO NOT BATMAN THIS SHIT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO BY A CODE.....and like he does kill him and he’s killed other people so like. if you expect me to care about krall i don’t. i literally don’t.
