there are too many things i want

and god hangs up the phone on me

so, maybe - can i ask you instead?

i want:

to store your touch in my memory

your presence, your feeling

imprint it infinitely small on silica

or carve it into marble

make it last eons until the earth swallows us

i want:

to hold you enough that being alone

makes my arms feel empty

i want:

to wake up every morning, and kiss you

and kiss you again when i come home

and again before we sleep 

instead of blue light and tired eyes

for “goodnight” to mean your gentle breath beside me

i want:

to make our reality from dreams

to stitch together a life worth living

make both our younger selves marvel at us

eyes sparkling with hope instead of blind faith

twinkling stars, not shattered glass, not broken 

i want:

to stand by you, and support you, and care for every cell in your body 

(time permitting) 

with my words 

and my own cells

each one of those too

i want:

to have a place we share

two names on an address
