"South Africa belongs to all who live in it. Untied in our diversity"
Anti-racist stencils painted around Johannesburg in protest against the recent anti-migrant mobilizations.
If you want to get a heads up that a post might be misusing the term "woke" in an antiblack manner, go to your settings (on desktop, click here: "https://www.tumblr.com/settings/account"), and add "woke" to your Filtered Post Content.
This will give you a heads up on your dashboard that a post contains the word or a variant of it, like this:
[ID: A cropped screenshot of a greyed out post that says, "This post contains filtered content: woke". There is a button labeled "view post" at the bottom. End ID.]
So that when you click to view the post, you can pay attention to see if it's being misused (which is usually is), if actually used for the purposes of fighting antiblackness, or it might just be someone saying "wow I just woke up and I already have a headache".
If you want to call yourself anti-racist, this is the bare minimum you should do to fight antiblackness.
So when you see posts misusing the term, which means any use of it sarcastically and painting it as a negative in any way, explicitly including saying things like "it's not woke to buy fast fashion", now you have 2 options:
Don't reblog the post, OR reblog it and correct the usage.
And if the person who you're correcting doubles down or blatantly ignores you, you block them. Especially if they've already been told multiple times.
And, no, the person misusing the term being Black does not excuse misusing it. Black activists have been telling people to stop doing this for years.
Just because conservatives on Fox News did the racism first does not mean you or anyone else gets a free pass to do the racism yourself.
Please spread this info to other people. I explicitly encourage you to make your own posts about it.
what have YOU done in order to serve Black Men today? white silence is white violence π€·πΌβπΏπ©πΌββ€οΈβπβπ¨πΏ

Wow.
If Free Palestine folks were actually principled anti-racists, they would cancel Finkelstein and expel him from their movement.
Since they're not, they won't.
The Yiddish word "Schvartze" isn't necessarily derisive...but that's how exactly how Finkelstein is using it.
This Jew-hating Jew is using Yiddish to call Van Jones a n****r.
-----
If someone on the political right posted: "CBS hires Van Jones to head up CBS News' n****r Department," the leftist fury that would ensue would be headline news everywhere.
But when one of their own does exactly that, it is ignored by leftists and most of legacy media.
It's not just Finkelstein who is despicable, hypocritical, and racist - it's the entire movement which surrounds him, supports him, enables him, and defends him.
This is what they've always been.

Those at the far-right end of the horseshoe seem to know they're white supremacists and acknowledge it... but those at the far-left end of the horseshoe are either totally blind to their own racism or seek to keep it masked.
Does this mean that the far right is more intellectually honest in their racism than the far left...?
As a queer norse pagan, all of this.
Put this rec up on my FB for my community organizer connections but realized I should put it here too for the hockey nerds following me, just in case you hadn't heard about it.
Book rec: Just finished reading Blackness is a Gift I Can Give Her by R. Renee Hess, and while it is specifically focused on Black women being involved in hockey spaces as both fans and players, and the barriers that are present there, I kept thinking of the SCA, and many other predominately white fandoms and spaces I've been in too.
I think it'd very much be a valuable read for many folks in the SCA, fighters or otherwise, and in other hobby or organization spaces that are overwhelmingly white. (Gestures around Tumblr fandom.)
If you're BIPOC (or even some other marginalized identities) you might feel a bit seen, and if you're white, it may give you some insight of what some BIPOC friends in these spaces may be experiencing, and to start thinking on how to make the experiences better and our spaces more diverse.
The author is also just an utterly charming writer, so it's a pretty enjoyable read too.
I already thought Saroya Tinker and Sarah Nurse were pretty cool, but they really are even cooler than you think.
