There's a very simple reason they had to cram 'AI' into everything as fast as humanly possible. Same reason they have to make it reward engagement at all costs, to the point of breaking people's brains and manipulating them into killing themselves.
And that's because left to their own devices, after a short period of being impressed with it, most people end up recognising the inherent limitations of large language model technology. And they greatly reduce their use, if not stop it entirely.
I've observed a great example of this natural shift in a subreddit dedicated to recommending and discussing alternatives to Character AI. The common complaints come in two forms: Unrealistic, where the user wants fully uncensored unlimited messages for free in a fully built online platform, not understanding that both hosting and computing power cost money. And Inevitable, where the user has encountered the core limitations and flaws of the technology, and is attempting to mitigate them.
A year ago you would get eaten alive for mentioning the possibility of roleplaying with other real people instead of a LLM. Now I routinely see those comments upvoted. In many threads the only accounts I saw further encouraging AI use were desperate pitches for their own AI platform, trying to find users in a wildly oversaturated market. People were sharing their experiences with discovering how much better it is to roleplay with a real person.
The shallow convenience offered by AI stops being a selling point when people use it enough to encounter all the frustrating drawbacks. If you want to go beyond surface level, if you care deeply, if you have specific tastes - The effort you have to put in to handle extremely common annoyances completely defeats the entire allure that AI had for you in the first place.
The average person encountering an LLM propensity for loops and repeated sentences is a lot more likely to eventually stop using it and give real roleplay a chance, or even find a completely different form of entertainment, than learning how to set up sillytavern so they can be on some cutting edge dynamic temperature shit, tweaking obscure settings.
LLM AI had to become the entire underpinning of the economy because otherwise, it would pass as a fad abandoned by the mainstream public, just like the metaverse, NFTs, etc etc. And our wannabe technofeudal overlords cannot allow that, since establishing AI as a tool of information control, information suppression, and spreading their preferred biased narratives is an absolutely crucial part of the fascist takeover.
