15: Kiss in the Rain

    Two shadowed figures were standing underneath the rooftop of the bus-station, both breathing heavily from the recent run under the heavy rain. Neither of them was prepared to this gloomy weather and the both were soaked down to bone. No much of a surprise considering that the forecast lady promised a sunny and a warm day; causing them to remain in their casual clothes which by now were so sticky and felt so heavy due to all the water they sponged into them.

    Definitely not the greatest day to take a stroll with a… friend.

    Leon looked at his companion from the corner of his eyes; she was shivering and held herself as her little hands worked on desperate attempts to return some body-warmth at least to her arms as she rubbed her with her palms in quick movements. Before the situation has gotten worse, he tried to offer his jacket to her - a gesture Mikan turned down immediately, probably — no. Because she didn’t want him to get sick. This nurse instinct of her’s of placing others in front of her was worrisome yet admirable. Too bad it isn’t the time and place to think of such things.

    Moving slowly, the boy closed the gap between of them and wrapped his arms around the plum-haired girl, embracing her gently; it was like one wrong move and cracks will appear on her porcelain-skin or she will shatter into million pieces. He treated her like a fragile-being, a small animal he must protect but also make sure that he won’t ruin or damage her - both physically and mentally. Close, she was so close and still, she was trembling, so the boy started to slowly rub her back as he tried to provide some warmth for the other.

    His ears only managed to catch silent mumbles and chatters from her lips and of course, the sound of the rain that was still falling down.

    …it was probably the intoxicating smell of sweetened medicine which was mixed with the scent of fresh water or maybe, it was another technique he has heard of to warm up that caused him to lean in and brush his lips faintly against her’s. As if that even the smallest kiss could kill her. No matter how hard he tried to hold back and restrain himself, the lady-killer was eventually enslaved by temptation and placed a proper kiss upon the clumsy nurse’s rosy lips. One thing for sure, the spark which was lit in his chest was more than enough to make his body to heat up, almost to level which could be considered unbearable.

    For how long did they kiss? Seconds? Minutes…? Perhaps the soothing sound of the rain made him think that it lasted for an eternity.

    The noisy bus which stopped by didn’t break only the perfect harmony which was in the area a few moments ago but also the kiss of the two teenagers. Pulling back from the hug, Leon tilted and offered Mikan a smile, along with a hand that she can hold onto if, she feels the need to.

    — “Go on… ladies first.”
