The trip through the Ghoul's Gate immediately caught my attention. Terzo and Copia accidentally falling into the void, arguing while they're literally plummeting through space and then being tossed around by the ghoulehs before landing in the desert was such a fun mix of comedy and danger It made the world feel unpredictable from the very beginning

The City of Vathek was probably my favorite part. The description of the giant hollow structures endless holes strange melted spheres and the unsettling architecture painted such a vivid image in my head. It felt alien without needing to rely on constant action and I could easily imagine walking through that place while never knowing what might appear around the next corner.

While reading, I ended up imagining an original ghoul character who would fit naturally into this world.

Instead of being a fighter this ghoul would act as one of Vathek's forgotten pathkeepers. It remembers every hidden tunnel and abandoned entrance beneath the city but constantly forgets names and conversations only moments after having them. It recognizes people by the sound of their footsteps rather than their faces. Because of that it accidentally guides lost visitors through the safest routes while speaking in broken fragments that seem meaningless until later.

Visually, I picture it as extremely tall and thin with cracked ivory skin marked by dark lines that glow faintly beneath the surface Long ash colored hair hangs over one eye while the other reflects the reddish desert light almost like polished glass Pieces of old stone and sand cling to its robes as though the city itself refuses to let it leave. Around its shoulders are weathered ropes carrying old keys collected from abandoned gates that no longer exist

One scene I kept imagining was Terzo and Copia becoming completely lost inside Vathek before hearing slow footsteps echoing through the tunnels. The pathkeeper silently walks past them, pauses for a moment and simply gestures for them to follow. No explanation no introduction. Just an ancient ghoul quietly leading them deeper into a city that seems alive

I really enjoyed how mysterious this world already feels after only two chapters, and I'm excited to see more of Vathek and the different kinds of ghouls that live there
