A/N: just a short soft moment that I talked about with @appiomofchoice , enjoy!
The night sky has befallen from the view of the private jet, as they get themselves comfortable. The dimmed light complement the atmosphere as they enjoy one's another's company in the comfort of the luxury.
"Tell me something that you are excited to see when we land." She asked with a glint of excitement in her eyes.
"Definitely - the ocean and the waves." He answers as soon as he could - with a wistful smile on his face as he continues.
"It's one of the things I missed while being at Boston, and I can't wait to be there."
"Its one of those moments where I looked forward to despite myself have been there before. Somehow, this time it feels different maybe - it feels a bit special."
His eyes were soft gazing into hers,
"It's definitely gonna be a special reunion." He kissed on top of her head as they drift into a comfortable slumber.

MASTERLIST
The rain started to fall for the fifth time of the week as the sound of it gave a soothing feeling to her as she took a seat on the couch of Bryce’s apartment that day. Casey decided on staying for the weekend as they haven’t gotten to grace each other’s presence due to their workload at the hospital. Bryce was busy due to an outstanding number of surgeries while Casey was occupied with more cases from the diagnostics team.
They initially decided on a weekend filled with adventures but, a day inside sounds perfect. Good movies and good company are always worth it, yet Casey found herself much more interested in the raindrops, than the movie itself.
“Casey!” He suddenly surprises her, making her let out a scream before jokingly punch him with her elbow.
“Bryce, I’m not into surprises like that!”
He lets out a satisfied happily, as he took a seat beside her.
“I know – it’s just very fun to irk you there. Plus, you were so focused on the rain there, what’s on your mind there?”
Her eyes seem to focus on the balcony once more, before tilting her head to face him. A smile appears on her face.
“I’m just thinking about work stuff, the hospital, Suzette, and just it feels like a mess sometimes in my head but it’s good to take a break for once.” She stated as both of them resume on their activity of rain-watching as he turns the movie off. They sat in silence before she perks up another question as they are in each other’s embrace.
“How have you been Bryce?”
“I am quite okay, and still in one piece which is a win for both of us! All the surgeries were packed but it has been fulfilling despite the sleep deprivation from being on duty for too long.”
She lets out a chuckle as the silence commences once more before an idea appears in her head. She immediately stood up from his embrace, as she took out the rain jackets from his storage room.
“I got an idea.” She exclaims happily before tossing the rain jackets his way, as they exit the apartment.
Casey founds herself smiling as they walked down the flight of stairs in their rain jackets as both of them stood upon the sidewalk of the apartment, a few inches away before exposing themselves to the rain.
“So, care to explain?” A laugh escapes his lips while Casey is gesturing the rainy sidewalk in front of them.
“We are going to have fun, and not think about work right now. It’s more directed towards me, but let’s show the people how to have fun even in the rain!”
“It's time for Party God Bryce Lahela to appear once more despite the chance of both of us getting hyperthermia” He summons as they both prepare themselves for some unexpected fun.
“We are wearing rain jackets, Bryce! In a count of three, let’s do this.” Both of them held each other’s hands, as they commence the countdown.

A big splash was heard, as they started to dance and finally having some fun in the rain. She wished she could capture this moment, yet there were some moments that better be enjoyed without any interruptions as it should.
There were weird looks given by the people across the road, as there were kids who were looking at them with bright eyes. Yet, they didn’t care – it was them against the rain and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
“This is a great idea Cas.” He stated as they sat upon the stairs outside of the apartment, accompanied by the drizzles of the rain itself.
She lays her head on his shoulder,
“It’s worth the hyperthermia then?” She jokes as he nods happily.
“But, speaking of hyperthermia – let's get ourselves dry before it gets much worst.” She nodded in agreement, as they walked back inside.
After they were both finally dried off, they decided to order some take-out for the night. She loved his cooking as he has been practicing since the year before – but, an excuse for a chipotle takeout is always acceptable.
The rain was seen still pouring as the stars above appear, both of them enjoying each other’s company. It was his turn to stare at the balcony, where the rain is falling heavily.
“I get it now – why there are times where the world around you disappears every time it rains.” He begins as Casey prepares the takeout on the table.
“And?”
“It gave you that sense of calmness. And, when we were dancing or playing – it feels like entering a world where there was freedom from all the responsibilities in the world… and I liked it.” His reply causing a wide smile to appear on her face, somehow the smile he knows all too well as there was a hidden agenda behind the mischievous idea behind the smile as well; we will never know.
“Maybe sometimes we can do it again?” She suggests as he nods in agreement upon the idea as she ends up running towards his arms filled with enthusiasm upon their future dates. He caught her just in time, as they stayed upon each other’s arms filling the void of their missing moments together – as the rain become the soundtrack of their little moments together both in and outside of the hospital.
Rating: G/ Fluff with a bit angst - a few lines of angst.

MY MASTERLIST
The final year of residency has befallen, as the re-opening party for Bloom Edenbrook is in full swing. The people were dressed their best to celebrate the night, a new era for medicine.
There were laughter, smiles from the people as they were admiring the new constructions, some of them even were spotted gawking at the replica of the Bloom Edenbrook cake. Her roommates were scattered as her eyes fall upon the group who is looking excitedly to raid the whole party themselves. She lets out a small laugh, as her eyes wander upon a figure – searching him in the crowd of people.
Her wish was granted instantly, as the figure appear in front of her eyes with a grin shining up the room even more.
“Hey there stranger.” He winks at her, as she smiles upon the greeting. He immediately took her hands in his, as they wandered around the party – it’s a combination of laughter, mediocre dance moves and a huge supply of food that leave them wanting more.
As the moments pass, they were slowly enjoying the night as Bryce’s eyes light up with an idea in mind, a look that she knows all too well.
“What are you planning there Bryce, I know that look.” She questioned as Bryce explains the plan to her.
“How about a trip to the serenity garden; this time of night there won’t be anyone up there. And if I’m wrong…that just makes it more exciting!” The hint of excitement in his voice is equivalent to a child receiving their gift during the holidays which made her chuckle at him.
She nods along with the idea, as they haven’t had much time together and it would be a good night for some peace from the party.
“To living dangerously then...” The glass in hand was raised, as Bryce did the same.
-
The serenity garden is beautiful, as it gave a sense of calmness in the air – away from the commotion below.
“It’s been so long since I’ve been here, it never changes on how amazing it still looks. The flowers, the view still looks breathtakingly from up here.” Her eyes glazed over the view of the room, it hasn’t changed since the time she went here with Kyra. It feels like a lifetime ago since she stepped into the room.
She felt a pair of eyes looking at her, as it was met with his brown ones. A smile perk on her face,
“What are you looking at there?”
“I’m looking at the most beautiful woman in the world who is here with me today, and I never felt so lucky.” He steps forward, pulling her into a kiss – as she melts upon the touch.
Both of them pulled away, as the need of air was urgent at the moment.
They moved a bit, as they took a sit upon one of the benches there overlooking the view that caught both of their breath away.
“I gotta admit that the view indeed looks incredible.” He said in awe, as Casey lay her head upon his shoulder.
They sat in silence for a couple of moments, as she broke it.
“How was your day?” A simple question to start, as her shift occurs today – and she didn’t got the chance to see Bryce all day long.
“Mine was filled with surgeries, it was quite the norm but – it feels good to do it again. How about you?”
“The diagnostic team got a new patient today, and honestly – it wasn’t a bad start for this year of residency actually. I got lucky, Leland still kept the rooms at the same place or I’d get lost today.” He lets out a laugh at the answer.
Casey’s eyes fall upon the view once more,
“With what Leland doing, it honestly doesn’t feel like the hospital I came by three years ago – it feels different. I can’t believe how much life could change in those three years….” She paused, as a realization hits that a major change might fall upon both of them as well – the thought went away as she pushed it away for this moment resuming to enjoy the view in front of her eyes.
“…and it will change again too in a year.” His words were soft, yet rough in context. Casey sat up, as she looked at him in the eyes.
“I will never change how I feel about you, and us…its real.”
Bryce sighs, as he took her hands in his while staring upon the emeralds of hers.
“I know, we will never change. But, look what Leland did – this is where we are heading Cas, our life is changing, medicine is changing and we can’t do anything about it. Life is about change – and like Edenbrook it changed alongside of us.”
Casey lets out a breath she is holding upon the revelation from Bryce. It is the truth, and it’s gonna fall upon them anyways somewhere in the future. She wanted to deny but, she knows it’s the whole truth – as her head falls on his shoulders once more.
Bryce pulled her into his embrace, as he slowly strokes her hair – letting out a sigh along the way.
“But, tonight – the future can’t touch us and, we will always going to be us, Bryce and Casey.” His words were soft and gentle, somewhat an attempt to calm her heart down.
“Tonight, it’s only us and that’s the only thing that I want to know.” Her lips met with his, as they enjoyed the night together talking about everything and nothing – as the feared was buried at the back of their minds. Somehow, it still leaves a bitter taste for them as the truth will come to face them very very soon; but for now… they have tonight.
-
As the party died down, Bryce walked her back to the apartment. They walked upon the sidewalk, in silence as the bright stars of the night accompany them along the way.
After a while, they arrived in front of her door as both of them are reluctantly not wanting to say goodbye.
“I had fun tonight.” Casey stated with a smile on her face, as Bryce returns a smile of his own.
“I did too, and…I really missed you today.” The sound of his voice made her heart leapt in happiness, as she stood in front of him – with the seconds passed by into the night.
He pulls her towards him, as he planted a kiss once more. It was tender, and passionate – the way their relationship has been.
“I missed you too – so so much.”
He waited for her a few moments before leaving, as she step inside – a new hope and fear was planted in their hearts upon the challenges that lies ahead, but... they believe that they will get through this in the end.

The special three words, a lot of combinations to emphasize the uniqueness of those words. It wasn’t said freely as hesitations are leading upon the revolution of our feelings to be translated into words. Some took a million lifetimes, as the journey for both Casey Valentine and Bryce Lahela was told as – it changes both of their lives in a good way.
--
I appreciate you
The unexpected tears that fell during her first day as an intern were now invisible, as she lets out a chuckle during the conversation between herself and Bryce in the storage closet. Somewhat, an attempt to cheer her up – and it is working. The smile on her face was visible.
The day began horribly for her, and it's one of those beginnings that would make it into the history books for one Casey Valentine.
She felt comfortable in his arms as they hug, giving her some sort of comfort that was much needed that day. Bryce’s strong arms gave the peaceful and safe feeling inside of you, as both of you sat in silence.
“This is nice, you are a pretty good hugger.”
His smile is visible from the compliment, as he replies
“Thank you, it’s one of my many many talents”
However, the invisible pull suddenly leads Casey to a lean forward for a kiss on the first day at Edenbrook with someone that felt like home, comfort, and peace until they were interrupted by a resident making them both laugh at the sudden interruption.
“Maaaaaybe, we should get back to work”
His wide smile, makes her heart fluttered somewhat feeling butterflies once more.
“The guy somewhat kills the mood huh?”
“He kinda did” As she lets out a small laugh before adjusting their clothes and their hair in its usual look.
Both of them stood in silence, as Bryce starts to make his way out. Casey stops him in his tracks and pulled him into a hug once more.
“Hope I cheer you up a little then?”
“Just a bit, but…thank you.” She placed a small kiss on his cheek, as they broke away from the hug going into separate ways as his advice was tattooed in her heart.

I like you
Liking someone, adoration is an understatement on what she felt towards one Bryce Lahela. She adores him – and, she adores what he brings to the table. A nice face, a nice body (of course), his skills and talents. But, one thing that stood out to her was his confidence.
Bryce was somewhat embodying a model walking down a runway – and, she aspired to be like him. The feeling of not giving a damn on anybody is something she struggled with for some time now. But, as time goes on – her ‘friendship’ with Bryce grew and she felt that surge of confidence inside of her. It was the same period where she realizes that her feelings towards the scalpel jockey grew – it was more than an acquaintance but, not yet a lover. Somewhere between those lines of two different feelings.
The feeling grew, as they spend much time together especially during the breaks they had. He always had an idea for a new adventure, either it was a concert, a random bachelorette party, or even sneaking into a gallery above an OR was considered an adventure with the one and only Bryce Lahela.
The moment where it all comes together – was New Year’s Eve. A start of a new year, and a start of their second year at Edenbrook.
After their mini celebration along with the others at Donahue’s – the night keeps on going for them both. It was a routine for them, something they have been doing together in the past year since knowing each other.
“How about our usual walk tonight?” She suggests as they both head out of the packed bar behind them, as it was only them.
“You read my mind there Casey.” He smiles as they both took their jackets with them, as the chilly night could somewhat be a risk of them getting hyperthermia in one way or another.
The night was cold and calming, as they walked hand-in-hand which becomes a routine for them.
“So, any resolutions for the year?”
He didn’t think as he lays out some goals of the year which seems to be relevant,
“Score some surgeries, slay on the surgeries, and get more surgeries.”
She laughs before slapping his arm, as he shakes his head upon the action.
“Okay – okay, maybe grow as a person? To be honest, I am the kind of person who-
She cuts him off,
“Who follows the flow of life?” He nods confidently as they walked upon the park trails.
“What about you?”
She thought about it for a second before laying it down,
“Be the best doctor I can be as I’m joining the diagnostics team this year.”
“You are already the best Casey.” He stops in his tracks facing her, as he pushes a bit of her hair covering her eyes.
“But, it doesn’t feel enough. Working on the diagnostics team is a dream come true – what if I screw up Bryce? It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” She lets out a sigh.
“Hey, you won’t screw it up, Casey. You are the best intern in the whole darn hospital and you deserve to be on that diagnostics team. I believe that you are amazing and good enough Casey Valentine – I hope you believe it too.” He replies as he pulls her into a kiss, as she felt her feelings blooming since that day. Nobody believes in her as much as he does since the very first day and she is very very grateful for it.
--
I love you
The scalpel in his hands shakes, as her name was mentioned by Dr. Delarosa from the gallery. It somehow felt like an impulse move – as the anxiety inside of him started to rise. He took a deep breath, calming himself down as he spoke to Ines.
“Is Casey in there?”
Her voice seems small from above the gallery, as she lets out a yes. His hands were still shaking, but somewhat it calmed itself down, fear started to fill in his head over Casey’s condition.
“Bryce, take a deep breath. Casey needs you to be calm, she is a fighter.” Ines’s voices boomed through the speaker above, as he took deep breaths in an attempt to calm himself down.
As the wave of anxiety has left his system, he focused on saving Kyra on the table – as his thoughts for her were a motivation for him to not fail.
And, he didn’t. The surgery was a success and Kyra is alive.
He ran as fast as he could, wishing and hoping that she is okay. He arrives and was met in a sealed room, and she noticed him in a split second.
She looked exhausted and different. However, she is alive. He lets out a breath he was holding, as he places his palm upon the glass that separates them both meeting hers.
“You’ll be okay.” He mouthed behind the glass, as she smiles happily meeting his eyes feeling satisfied for the first time today.
As the others were working on the cure – he walked into the room with a hazmat suit, meeting her eyes as she lays upon the hospital bed.
“You came, how was the surgery? How is Kyra?” She asked, as his smile giving all the answers she needs.
“She is alive and well, but she hasn’t heard about this yet.”
She nods in understanding, somewhat a revolution was made in her mind.
“What if it is the end, Bryce?”
He looks at her, trying his best to smile.
“It’s not going to be the end, Casey.” He replies with a reassuring smile on his face, as they lay together on the hospital bed.
“But, if it’s the end…I am glad to spend the last night I have with you.” She said softly, gazing upon his eyes behind the suit. He smiled painfully upon the response.
“Do you remember when we first met?”
She smiles, remembering their memories together as it becomes a topic of the night for them. As the night starts to fall, both of them were accompanied by the moonlight shining in the room. She felt safe in his arms, but it doesn’t feel the same. And suddenly, in a tired voice – she spoke to him.
“If I die tonight, I know I’ll regret not saying this earlier – but, Bryce Lahela; I love you.”
He was silenced, taken aback by it. The room was silent, as she immediately found herself drawn into a slumber safely in his arms.
“I love you too Casey.” He whispers in her ear, with a pinch of hope in his voice that everything hopefully will be okay, and she will be okay.
Characters: Bryce Lahela, Casey Valentine and Teresa Martinez.
Summary: The small moments with Mr.s Martinez were playing in their mind a year after the inevitable happens.
TW: death.
A/N: hi! I am sorta-back in the writing game? This idea has been living in my mind as OPH is coming. Its somewhat a tribute to Mrs. Martinez, and with a small touch of backstory between Bryce and Casey. I’m so sorry for not writing as much as I did before, uni is almost coming to an end for the 2nd semester which i am quite excited for. But, this story is dear to my heart. Idk why I love to write death, as i somewhat resonates it with life, but...this really is something I am very proud of. I like to dedicate this to those who wants to catch their dreams but, they couldn’t. Mrs. Martinez really gave us good advice, and...I’d like for it to stay in our minds. Also, I’m dedicating this to those who have leave a mark in my life. Its something that still blows me away everyday. Thank you, and enjoy! <3
MY MASTERLIST
"I would take a 99% chance of dying over spending the next ten years in this hospital. To have even a 1% chance of exploring the world... of finally standing on the steps of Sacre-Coeur... I would give everything."—Mrs. Martinez.
---------
“Teresa Martinez were found dead at her hotel room in Buenos Aires.” was the topic in the hospital that day. The news of Mr.s Martinez leave the hospital devastated, as the world seems to stop for Casey.
It doesn’t feel real. It’s not real, she is living her life happily in Paris...visiting the Sacre-Coeur. She can’t be...
The thoughts were interrupted by the sound of ambulance coming in, a trauma case distracting her thoughts. She quickly joined in the other interns in the scene, but her mind falls onto Mr.s Martinez; the advice she left. A wisdom, as her passing is similar to a shooting star finally burns out. A light that has to be left behind. The days went by quicker, a trial, law-suit occurs in a blink of an eye.
---------
PRESENT DAY
It was a day of remembrance today, as Bryce and Casey make their way to the hospital in a slow pace. It was an emotional day for all of them, as all their memories were playing. All the laughter and joy, it was one of her favorite things about her. Her cheery persona was the heart of Edenbrook, and without her; a light has been burn, but a star has obtain someone special to keep on shining them from a far.
Bryce was awfully quiet as well, as they walked down the road after spending their night together. Words were unspoken the night before, as the comfort was worth more than a sentence, a word and even a rhyme.
Casey found herself to a stop, at the entrance. A distance away, trying to calmed herself down. He broke the silence by placing his hand on her cheek, caressing it with a small smile on his face.
‘You cam do this okay, we are all here for you.’ He said before pulling her into a kiss, as they melt into an embrace before going their separate ways. He stops in the mid of the hallway, his eyes fall onto her as they were met with a pair of emeralds that is already looking at him.
They both resume their day, as the memories followed them throughout the hour. A reminder that she had left a mark to everyone in Edenbrook including one Casey Valentine and Bryce Lahela.
----------
C A S E Y
The voices around her fades, as she sat on the empty bench, letting out a sigh as she was dismissed by Dr. Mirani upon her mistake today in the patient room. She remembers the embarrassment as the other interns let out a chuckle upon her mistake, moments before she was chewed. It was her second week as an intern, and she has made mistakes; what happened to her?
Her thoughts were interrupted by someone occupying a seat the opposite of her. It was Mrs Martinez letting out a breath with her I.V stand on her side, looking at her with concern. She smiled upon her arrival as she remembers the events on their first meet which involves herself being lost in the hospital during her first day with Elijah.
Weeks later, she became close to her as she learns upon her love towards travelling, visiting new places around the world; from the Bright Lights of Paris to the city of Madrid. And, the thought of the postcards hanging in her room bring joy to her, as a reminder of her own dream to be a doctor.
“Casey dear, what’s with the long face?” She spoke, as Casey lets out a sigh.
“I just, I messed up again. It’s been a month, and I tend to get distracted with everything; friendships, the competition, dreading patients, and everything feels too overwhelming.” She burried her face in her hands, trying to hide her expression from the woman in front of her.
After a few moments of silence, she opened her eyes once more to be met with a concerned looking Mr.s Martinez.
“Dear, you are not human if you never messed up. If I ever got a dollar for every time I took a wrong turn in life, I believe I can afford a mansion in the city of Stars.”
Casey lets out a chuckle upon the mention of it, as the smile slowly appear on her face.
“I think I’d be able to pay up my student loans that way.”
There was a ripple of laughter between them, lighten up the mood releasing a knot on her shoulders that has been there for the day.
“Indeed, but I saw you work that day; and I believe you are going places dear. You are unique, and the world is not ready to see the light in you dim. For the last decades of living, I made a huge mistake of not pursuing my dreams; and I don’t want to see you give up this dream Casey.” Her voice is demanding yet calm giving her a sense of hope.
They were interrupted by Danny who is in the midst of a scavenger hunt for one Mr.s Martinez who apparently has left her room once again.
“There you are Mr.s Martinez, its time for your medicine once again.” Danny said as he smiles upon their interaction.
“I guess my time is up. I had fun chatting with you dear, I’ll see you soon.” Mr.s Martinez left with Danny leaving her alone with the wild thoughts once again.
But, this moment; she received a sense of hope. Maybe it will be okay after all.

B R Y C E
The first day as a surgical intern at Edenbrook. He was finally a surgeon, all those years of bartending was worth it. His confidence somewhat pushed people away, as he shrugs the feeling off. He came here to be the best, and not to find friends.
“Welcome interns. Today is the start of your careers as a surgical intern, and I am ecstatic for what all of you could bring to the table.” the Dr. Harper Emery exclaims happily, as she eyed the crowd of surgeons.
There was a round of applause, as the energy in the room was accumulated.
“I will introduce you to Dr. Tanaka who is one of your surgical residents. He will be guiding you through this journey. Some of you will fall, quit, but some of you will rise and it will be worth it in the end.”
After the introduction was done, the crowd was dismissed as the first rounds of the day begun for the surgical interns.
His heart was filled with excitement, a new beginning. A new slate, and a new chance to not become known. That is the whole reason from the beginning. He is Bryce Lahela, a surgeon. Nothing else more.
As the days go by, he has been able to witness the procedures that were taught during his years at medical school. His gaze was equivalent to one who looks at their favorite food which is filled with awed and joy. As someone who would fixed up the problems at home, surgery made him feel fulfill once again. It is giving him a purpose even after everything that has happened.
“Dr Lahela, earth to Dr. Lahela.” A voice called for him brought him back from his subconscious.
“Yes, I’m here.” He replied as the other interns were found laughing silently at the back.
“What is the first step to perform a Laparoscopic appendectomy?’ Dr. Tanaka questioned him with Dr. Emery on his side observing. All of the eyes fall on him.
It was his moment to show that he is worth it today, and everyday for the rest of his life.
We will access the appendix through a few small incisions in the abdomen as a cannula which is a small, narrow tube will then be inserted. It is used to inflate the abdomen with carbon dioxide gas which allows us to see the appendix more clearly...” He paused, as he took a deep breath before resuming his explanation.
“Once the abdomen is inflated, a laparoscope will be inserted through the incision. It is a long, thin tube with a high-intensity light and a high-resolution camera at the front which will display the images on a screen, allowing us to see inside of the abdomen and guide the instruments. When the appendix is found, it will be tied off with stiches and removed. The small incisions are then cleaned, closed, and dressed.” His final words fall as somehow equivalent to a mic-drop earning both smiles from the two doctors, as they resumed with rounds for the day.
He took a minute to be proud of himself, as it is a reminder that he is here to stay.
After rounds was over, he is officially a surgeon. He was assigned under Dr. Tanaka as he was his resident along with a few other interns. It was really happening, the suprised dream he had that was meant to be an escape; has came true today.
“Dr. Lahela, I would like you to scrub in with me to perform your very first appendectomy in the O.R” Dr. Tanaka said, as his smile was wide filled with joy which was taken away by the growling voices of the other interns behind him.
He ignored them, as he started to scrub in. The looked that was dedicated to him was somewhat a deja vu moment, a moment where he was known as the son of a criminal. The hatred eyes that is coming to him, attacking him slowly as it was disguised by the confident exterior.
He shake the thoughts away, getting himself prep in the O.R for his first surgery, but some demons never left as he tried his best.
After they were dismissed, he took a turn to the cafeteria as a distraction. It wasn’t the best, maybe he hoped it would be like the movies; he would be the protagonist, the hero. Instead, it was the joker.
He decides upon a snicker bar from one of the vending machines, as the line piled up. He took a seat at the edge of the room, with his pager present on the table. A breath was taken, calming the rage and expectations in him.
The occupied thoughts were interrupter by a woman, looking at her once again with concern.
“You should try this, it’s the cafeteria signature.” The voice was soft, comforting as she passed a pudding cup his way. Chocolate to be specific.
“It’s just a pudding cup, mr.s” He chuckled upon the small cup, as Mr.s Martinez joined him on the empty seats.
“It’s more than a pudding cup, it’s the cure of sadness actually.” She gestures upon him, as realization hits him.
“I didn’t hide it hard enough didn’t I?”
She just shake his head, as he held the pudding cup in his hands.
“You must be one of the new interns aren’t you, the outfit reminds me of a young Harper Emery during her own residency.” She gestures towards his green scrubs.
“She was the legend, and you have seen her work here before??” His eyes shine upon the name.
“Son, I have been in this hospital for the last decade. I have known all the residents for some times now, there was a lot a person can go through for the last 10 years.” She stated as Bryce was filled with awe.
“So, tell me what’s with the long face; I thought it was supposed to be an exciting start.”
“I woke up today feeling on top of the world, but coming here feels like the past haunting me once again. The eyes, the look, and...it reminds me of something I always wanted to forget.” He lets out a small sigh upon the statement, it wasn’t the whole truth, but it feels go to have someone to listen.
“The past, its always going to be there to haunt us. Sometimes, history repeats itself to prove how strong you are. You have been through a lot and you survived, you are a doctor today dear. This chance is bigger than any doubt, any pain, any memory that you have been through. I have seen the doctors here grow, some had left to pursue something easier, some even crack under the pressure, but some also thrive in excellence. Those people have fought to survive, and that’s what life is about dear. Fighting to survive, I am fighting too. It felt like a long journey for the past 10 years, but some adventures are worth to take to get to the final destination.” She ends the speech with a smile, as she left him with his thoughts once again.
It feels like a fever-dream, but it is true. Maybe, he will make it after all with a pack of chocolate pudding by his side.
Suddenly, his pager starts to beep. A new chance to start again, a new hope was in-stored. He took a final bite before leaving the room, feeling okay for the first time that day.

PRESENT DAY
The day passes by quickly, as the reminders and memories kept on replaying in their minds. A sign from her, a message possibly, a lingering gift from the beyond.
Casey met up with Bryce at the entrance, they have plans that evening. Both of them are already dressed in black which replaces the scrubs from the day; Luis invited them that day to pay their respects for Mrs. Martinez. The whole gang followed, as it is better to face the inevitable together- making it less scarier.
The evening was peaceful, it was beautiful even. The leaves started to fall, its a start of a new season; some would say a new chapter. They met with Luis to pay their respects to the woman who had changed all of their lives, as they changed hers even for a moment.
They paid their respects together, as Casey lets out of her silent wishes for Mrs. Martinez. It took a few moments before she was met with his comforting gaze once more, as she nods in completion. Their reunion with Luis was a pleasant one, as he thanked them once more; despite everything. It echo’s in her mind, word-by-word.
‘You give my mom her happiness, the one thing I couldn’t. I will never thank you enough for the little miracle that had happened. I was pissed when I found out, but...you manage to give her the signature Martinez’s smile once more. Thank you.’
Luis excused himself from the group, as they were pulled into a group hug. Mrs. Martinez gave each and everyone of them a purpose. Something that she couldn’t see before.
After they bid their farewell, Bryce and Casey walked hand-in-hand making their way back home as they talked about life, memories, and even happiness. It was a beautiful ending for their day, as the sunset was their backdrop, it was what life is all about.
She finally started to live life, as he continues to pursue his dream. Maybe even found himself a new dream as well.
----------
‘Life to one Teresa Martinez ; it was an unforgettable journey. She believed in the impossible, she took a risk that wasn’t mean to be taken by any other. She trusted me, and that was everything. But, the news - it was a tragedy. Death is a tragedy, as life was taken away from us. But, Teresa Martinez’s death reminds us of the dreams that we wanted to catch. The dreams that were left behind, the dreams that were abandoned in the dust. It was a dream that is worth following for, even if it ends upon your death bed. She believed in me during my dark times, and the reminder of one Teresa Martinez, is something we can’t turn back from. But, the advices and love she has left behind is a reminder that those who are gone...will always be with us, we can’t see them, but there are always there guiding us, cheering us on even after they have left us behind. Teresa Martinez lived a good life, and she will never be forgotten as she is flying high at somewhere better.’

It seems to be a normal day, as she bumped into him at the hospital gym during the early hours of the day. He looks confident, excited, and happy – as she wished him luck with a sealed kiss before going their separate ways for the day.
The day went by in a breeze, as the diagnostics team managed to bond with Tobias as they formed a plan against Leland. Casey feels satisfied with the situation as she emerges from the lab, to be met with a dazed-looking Bryce who is hovering over the nurses' station. He looked worried, nervous as the confident façade from this morning was nowhere in sight.
She makes her way to him and asked.
“Hey, are you alright?”
He seemed startled by the sudden greeting, replying to her question with a bit of uncertainty which she knows all too well. He has done something – which has such a not good outcome from the expression that was plastered on his face.
“What? Oh, Casey – um, hi! I’m great…nothing wrong here.” He replies before turning away from her, suddenly facing the nurses' station as Casey raised an eyebrow was unconvinced by the whole act. She moves a few steps forward, as they were aligned – and his hands are shaking.
With a worried tone in her voice, she places her hand on top of his arm in an attempt to calm him down.
“Bryce, take a deep breath.”
He calms himself down slowly, taking a few deep breaths as the visible movement from his hands started to disappear. He looks around and immediately takes her hand in his moving away from the nursing station into somewhere private – an empty patient room.
She closes the door, as Bryce started to looked worried once more. Somehow, an expression that can be seen behind closed doors, somehow a vulnerability that can be seen through him at that moment. Casey moves on forward, taking his hand in hers giving it a squeeze of comfort.
After a few silent moments, she breaks the silence.
“Talk to me Bryce, what happened?” Her voice was soft as silk as he took a deep breath before revealing the situation her way.
“I….” There was hesitation, it wasn’t the Bryce that she saw this morning. It was something much deeper than that. She steps forward, as his head falls in shame.
She places a hand on his cheek, green eyes meeting his – as he lets it out.
“I messed up Casey. My hand slipped, I…nicked the arterial wall, and…there was blood. Everywhere…” His voice stops, somehow he felt himself slowly tearing up before he continues.
She didn’t say a word, as she places an arm around him – giving him the comfort needed he continues.
“How was the patient, Bryce?” She asked slowly, as he regained his composure after a while.
“The team stepped up, and thankfully – but, I froze today. Completely, it feels like the moment was flashed upon my eyes and there is nothing I can do about it. I froze Casey.” He paused before a sigh escaped his lips.
“The arterial wall was weak, and the blood..it was too fast…it all went blank. If the intern assisting the surgery didn’t step up when he did…I might have lost the patient today.” He buried his head in the crook of her neck, as they sat down on the empty bed, as she held him close. He had held her during her darkest days, and now it's her turn upon returning the favor. She places a kiss on his head before speaking up.
“Bryce, it’s okay; we are humans after all. Please don’t be too hard on yourself.”
“I can’t – I was responsible as the attending requested me for this surgery. I..I just, never felt this unsure of myself. After leaving home years ago, I thought the feeling has left me for good.”
Suddenly, both of their pagers beep at the same time – as they both stood up from the bed. Bryce still somehow looked quite somber, as Casey looks at him with a worried expression.
“Are you going to be okay?”
He places a small smile, a fake smile that she knows too damn well, and said,
“Don’t worry, I think I’ll be fine…I just need to get my mind off of this.” He replies and leaving a kiss on her cheek before he disappears out of the room as Casey started to make her way again to the patient’s room somehow still worried about Bryce.
-
At the end of the day, he was seen waiting for her at the entrance. Somehow, he looks a bit better than before – his smile was wide, but it doesn’t quite reach the eyes, as Casey scoots forward kissing him.
“So, where are we heading?” He asked as they walked out of the hospital doors.
“It’s a surprise.” She winks, as they walked excitedly to this secret destination.
After a few train rides later, they both arrived at a suburb area away from Boston. Away from Edenbrook, away from everything.
“Welcome, to our stay for the night.” She gestures upon the area, as it was somewhere a mystery to him yet, the sounds of the waves bring comfort his way.
“I know this is quite a huge surprise, I feel like – we needed some time away and I figured I need to get away from the diagnostics team as the whole issue is starting to give me a headache,” Casey states as she was met with a smiling Bryce, who looks genuinely happy for the day.
He pulls her into a hug, the first time that day – he looked calm, happy even. He feels much calmer inside, and she smiles upon the sight as they explore the place.
As the night falls, they sat together at the beach – which was an unexpected spot for the day for both of them makes him wonder.
“I gotta ask, how did you arrange this?” He asked genuinely curious about her smart thinking.
She lets out a chuckle before her eyes fall upon the waves.
“I used to come here before, and it was one of my cousins' homes and he was kind enough to let us stay for the night. I thought about bringing it up, so maybe we could take a day or two away from Boston – but, our daily work life said no. So, I made a couple of phone calls – and we have the place for the day.”
He smiles,
“Tell your cousin, I appreciate it a lot.”
“Don’t worry, he knows.” She smiles knowingly, as the wind started to blow giving a chill for the both of them. He places an arm around her, as the blanket covered them both from the chilling night.
The stars above were shining brightly, as the waves were crashing. It was a calming night for the both of them.
“How are you feeling Bryce?” She asked, with a bit of concern in her voice.
“I…feel a bit better being here. And, after I was dismissed – I did some reflecting, and I know we make mistakes, but…it feels weird to be making them especially with something we are so familiar with.” He states with a questionable tone in his voice.
“It somehow feels like med school again right? It’s the moment where we thought we knew better, but…at the end of the day, we are only human Bryce. So, when tomorrow comes – we can try again. Medicine, it's not an easy road – my mom warned me a million times before I submitted my college applications and the time where young Casey yelled in her dorm-room about a mistake on sutures! We will make mistakes, no matter how good we are. All the doctors before us even the famous ones misdiagnose, some even make the simplest medical mistakes an intern could make because we are human.”
“Bryce Lahela, we are human and imperfect. You will screw up a couple of surgeries, I almost lose my medical license. That’s the proof, we are imperfect humans, but to get where we want to be; the mistakes we make are a part of who we are. You are Bryce Lahela because of your victories, your mistakes. I’m Casey Valentine due to my victories and mistakes as well. You are a bright light to this world, don’t let one surgery dim you down. We just gotta fight in a different way?” She displays an all-knowing smile at him a call-back of their conversation years ago.
“We will fight it in a different way.” He says happily, somehow finally convinced. The smile on his face was worth it in the end, as they spend the night together – moments of running around the beach, quizzing Casey for her upcoming medical boards, and a moment alone with one another.
The night was magical, filled with insight and many new memories as they were each other’s flashlight – getting each other through the night, always there through thick and thin. As their small getaway ends, Bryce returns to the hospital with new renowned strength as the reminder was tattooed in both of his heart and mind.
Summary: A very short drabble on the little things of their relationship, and how being away from the hospital brings the feeling of happiness for Casey.
Sometimes, the rush of life makes one forget the true beauty of life itself. One may have put themselves upon the fast lane as they fell to the pace of the world itself – a fast one. It was experienced by Casey and Bryce herself upon entering the medical field. A part of this compromise has been talked about before, as the long hours and sometimes, there are times where they wouldn’t even see each other despite working at the same hospital.
It was a compromise both were willing to take, as they coincidentally manage to get a day off on the same day. It was a chill day as they lounged at his apartment, catching over from the days where life took them over, and the stories of each case and surgery will become a topic especially at the table, as somewhat his attempt on helping her to prepare for the medical boards which will be coming very soon.
It feels right, to be with him. It feels good to have this time away from the hospital, despite the rush it gave her – sometimes, in life; the calmness of being with the one you love worth much more. And, in that moment – she smiles as they sat together upon his couch, a comedy was playing in the background as everything falls into place.
“I’m really happy that you’re here with me.”
He smiles, taking her hand in his – as he kissed her knuckles, the familiar smile on his face.
“Me too, more than you know."
She smiled, feeling happy inside; a joy that can’t be described in words but it's evident on her face as they spend the rest of their days together, leaving the real world behind them.

MY MASTERLIST
Holidays. Every year was a surprise for her, as the holidays were filled with miracles and it’s a mark for a new beginning. A new beginning to start over, yet… the hospital was filled with patients instead. She was a believer on miracles, and there is going to be a miracle happening at the hospital today.
She stood by the nurse station along with some nurses, as a 9-year-old boy displayed a sad expression on his face upon the presence of all the machines surrounding him. Olivia walked his way with his chart in her hand.
‘Hi Chris, how are you today?’ Her voice soft as the boy’s fears slowly rolled down.
‘I’m… scared. Do you know where my mommy is?’ His voice is still shaky despite the nerves has been controlled.
She smiled at him, an encouraging smile; the one where it could make your worries fly away in a certain amount of time.
As she was about to reply, a couple was spotted speeding into the room with a worried expression on their faces, which transitioned into a relief seeing their son in good condition.
Olivia took a few steps back giving the family their space, as the hugs were exchanged giving her a mental note to call her parents as it was one of the times where she didn’t celebrate the holidays with her family.
After a while, the father breaks away from the hug making his way to Olivia.
“Hi, Mr. Wheeler. My name is Dr. Olivia Hadley and I have your son’s result…” Her voice is soft, as the mother pulls the boy into a hug earning a smile from herself.
“Nice to meet you, Dr. Hadley, do you know what is wrong with Chris? We got a call from the hospital from his daycare and we hope it won’t be serious…”. Olivia knows that tone of voice all too well, as he was trying to disguise the fear with a calming demeanor.
“His results states that Chris has a fever along with the flu which is not serious at all. We will get his prescriptions ready but…we have to monitor Chris for the night to make sure nothing is serious for now.” She states earning a relief looked once again followed by a wide smile from Mr. Wheeler who looks much calmer than before.
“Is our boy going to be okay Dr. Hadley? It’s almost the holidays and it’s one of his favorite time of the year and we hope we could bring him home soon to his brothers and sisters at home…’ Her voice is soft, a glimmer of hope can be seen in her eyes hoping this nightmare would be over soon.
“I can’t promise anything Mr.s Wheeler, but I know we will do everything we can to get Chris better.”
…
…
…
She nods to the family while leaving the room to let the family reunite. The charts were placed at the nurses station , as she bumps into Bryce who somehow has a huge smile on his face upon her presence.
“Bryce, what a wonderful surprise.” She smiled at the sudden appearance who happens to be her boyfriend which is rare to see on the pediatrics floor.
“Well, I wanna see my girlfriend after a long 24-hour shift.” He placed a kiss on her cheek, as they walked together on the halls as their pages are silent for now.
They stopped in front of a familiar place which somehow their favorite place besides the on-call room. The NICU is on the peds ward. Both of them stood behind the glass, as they observed the nurses handling the babies inside with care. There were small coos can be heard, as there were a few babies are asleep, and there are some who are wide awake.
“I see a new-comer!…” Liv exclaimed excitedly as Bryce’s eyes fall onto the view in front of them.
“Isaac Rivers.” He states after reading the chart from behind the glass.
Olivia’s eyes widen at an idea, as she pulled Bryce with her leading them both into the NICU which was met by one of Olivia’s closest colleagues, Miranda.
“Olivia hi! How can I help ya today?”
She gestures to the babies, with a wide smile along with her puppy-eyes to Miranda which she instantly understands the look on her face.
“Alright Liv, since the staff was short today; we need some extra hands today.” A smile appeared on her face, as both Bryce and Olivia went inside to help.
They get themselves sanitized before they handled the babies. The NICU was one of her favorite places in the hospital, it’s the start of growth where a human was brought into the world. And, she doesn’t want a kid to be alone especially during the holidays.
They shuffled places, as Olivia observes the little girl inside one of the cribs. She took a look on her chart, as a small smile appeared at the name that was written on the chart.
Olivia Renelle Johnson. 24th December 2020.
She took a seat, as she observed little Olivia who is cooing in her crib. Small coos can be heard somehow made her mesmerized by her little existence. So many moments have passed, as she found herself hooked to Olivia once again, after checking the other babies around her.
She was entranced at the moment that she didn’t realize a figure was standing behind her.
“Now I understand why you are hooked with her...” Bryce lets out a small laugh as he places his arms on her shoulders.
“She is an Olivia as well.” Her words came out as soft as silk, as the baby coos softly once more with a small smile appeared on her face.
“Well, all of the Olivia’s I known has left a mark in my life and I think this one did the same to you Liv.” His eyes fall onto baby Olivia as he scoots forward to take a closer look, as his thumb was captured by baby Olivia herself in the crib.
…
…
…
Liv excuses herself to meet with Miranda who is smiling at them both.
“What’s with the look Miranda?” She eyes her earning a nudge from her friend.
“The three of you looked like a family, and it’s such a calming sight. You are a natural Liv.” She states as both of their gazes fall onto Bryce who was still playing with baby Olivia.
“He is such a natural too, I honestly never expected that.” A smile was formed on her lips, everyday she learned something new about Bryce and, it has been an enjoyable process.
“So, when is your shift will end Liv?”
“Our shifts are done actually, we wanted to check in these cuties before going back… plus, with the holidays; I knew you might need some extra hands.”
Miranda shook her head while a smile lingers on her face,
“You know you deserve a break from this hospital once in a while right?”
“I know, I guess this is some part of me that can’t be erased know and I am happy with it.”
“Whatever you say Liv.”
Both of them stood in silence before she decided to bring up the question.
“Have the parents taken baby Olivia back yet since it’s almost been 24 hours since her birth?” Olivia asked earning a sad look from Miranda who shook her head sadly.
“Baby Olivia unfortunately were found pre-mature, as the mother has to go through an early c-section because of it.”
She felt her heart breaking slowly,
“Do you think she’ll make it?” Her voice filled with uncertainty which is replied with Miranda’s encouraging smile.
“She is a fighter, just like you Liv. We will monitor her for the night and who knows; maybe a miracle will happen. It’s the holidays after all.” She winks at her, making her calm down a little but can’t help by the pang of sadness inside her.
…
…
A sad expression falls onto Olivia’s features, somehow a part of her was already been flooded by sadness. It hurts her to see this sight, a child with no parents.
She makes her way back to Bryce, as she took a seat beside him. He notices the sadness on her face and asked.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Is Olivia okay?” He gestures to the baby Olivia who is sleeping soundly in her crib.
Liv nodded but a part of her feels down, somehow sadness has washed into her system.
“There was complications during her birth. Miranda told me, they have to keep an eye on baby Olivia for the night.” The words felt heavy, as it escapes her lips earning as his smile falters a bit, his eyes fall onto baby Olivia who is sound asleep with a pang of sadness can be seen in his eyes.
Bryce nods, understanding as he pulled Liv into a hug and placed a kiss on top of her head. As they continue their task of accompanying baby Olivia for the night, with the addition of instrumental Christmas music playing in the background.
…
…
…
It was midnight and its officially Christmas as they sat in the NICU with one another with permission from Miranda; they are allowed to accompany baby Olivia and the other babies who haven’t been returned to their parents yet.
The room was dimmed as the occupying babies were sleeping softly with Olivia and Bryce to make their first Christmas less lonely.
After a while, Bryce brought back two cups of hot cocoa from the nearby office in an attempt to keep them both awake.
“So, what do you think about the holidays in the hospital?” Bryce asked as he has his arm around her after setting down the cup of hot cocoa down.
Olivia starts to think, as somehow it was a new tradition for her to celebrate the holidays anywhere other than her home.
“It’s been exciting and very very new.”
“But…?”
“But, the company is very much enjoyable.” She smiles at him, earning a wide smile from the man himself.
“Good answer.” He placed a kiss on her forehead, followed by small movement from baby Olivia herself.
…
…
…
As it hit the 24 hour mark, both Olivia and Bryce had wide smiles upon their faces as baby Olivia survives the night.
“She did it Bryce, she survives!” Olivia exclaimed quietly as they hugged once more, it was a long night but… it is worth it.
“It’s the season of miracles, and baby Olivia here is one of them.” His voice is slow, as his gaze falls upon the crib.
Olivia nods, a smile is not leaving her face as they stood there. Miracles indeed could happen during this time of the year, and it was indeed the best Christmas ever.
