and yes, i definitely think owen still gets attached to legs ❤️ i think another layer to the louis copium is that owen Needs to believe louis is perfect and nice and would never hurt him because if he really thinks about it (which is. difficult. why is it so difficult to think about this? why does the thought keep slipping away before he can get a hold of it?) he has become very reliant on louis very quickly, likely is in a state where he can’t support himself and doesn’t truly have a way out even if he wanted to leave. so i think after a while of That, there’s some level of (possibly subconscious) relief at having someone else reach out to him. he doesn’t want to leave louis, of course he doesn’t, why would he? but i think knowing he has the option is more of a comfort than he can admit.

i think also louis probably lets legs stay around because owen finding anyone he trusts is incredibly rare, especially a doctor, which owen does still need even if louis’ blood is holding off the worst effects of his illness. but louis is also incredibly observant and can definitely connect the dots between the times owen interacts with legs and the times owen has more Worries than usual for louis to brush away, and at the end of the day there’s only so much he’s willing to tolerate. he’s making his puppy upset !! he can’t have that now can he

so anyway that being said,,,,,, the kiss with louis’ blood is so fucking inspired im obseeeessed with it… first of all louis feeling the thrall connection to legs kick in and giving owen scritches and telling him what a clever boy he is,,,,,, hot. second of all i think its very possible louis might’ve planted the idea of this in an earlier conversation (owen wasn’t directly ordered to do this because i think its messier that way but i also dont think this was entirely his idea either) maybe owen trying to have an earnest conversation with louis about the state of their relationship and talking about how frustrating it is that legs is so insistent that something is wrong,, and louis responding with something like oh he just doesn’t Understand Our Relationship (yeesh the allegory. hey louis how’s your mom doing btw) and owens like damn you’re so right… <— something devious brewing

uuggghhh wait i’m obsessed actually bc legs getting thralled except. i don’t think louis is quite as inclined to be as sweet and niceys with legs because 1. legs is fighting it much harder than owen ever did, and 2. legs has been a general nuisance for ages and he has some pent up frustration. first of all i think louis should fuck him angrily about this bc it would be really hot but secondly. it compels me if the thing that kinda makes owen’s perfect idealized view of louis start to crack is that louis keeps doing small things towards legs assuming owen either wont notice or will willfully ignore it, and in a vacuum these tiny incidents don’t amount to much but as they start to pile up and owen tucks them away in the back of his brain to think about later he sorta realized how a lot of the way louis treats legs is very indicative of,,,, someone who treats people like his possessions and is in fact Not endlessly patient and kind. yikes!

Anon. This is an incredible idea. (Although when I first read it I thought you'd said "let the trans girls kiss," which is also something I'm very in support of and can also absolutely be true here. "You wouldn't be able to, it's Aquarian tooth jewelry, it's for people with fangs. It's, uh." There's a pause, and Mira looks up at Sakito to see that he's turned slightly pink. "It's. Normally those displays would go at the back of the store."

"Sakito, are you blushing? That's so cute, why are you blushing?"

Homare smooths the bandage down over the bridge of Hiroyuki's nose and says, "I'm not going to ask how you got into that situation--"

"Well, there was this guy--"

"--and I don't want you to tell me, because I can only handle so much stress on a day-to-day basis."

Hiroyuki grins at him. "It's nice that you worry about me, thanks."

"No smiling, I need to deal with this other spot. Someone has to worry about you." Homare frowns, takes gentle hold of Hiroyuki's chin, and starts wiping more dirt off of his face. "I've known that since I figured out that you were actively working with three Ultramen, they're intergalactically famous for having no sense of self-preservation."

"Wait, really?"

"As far as I understand it their entire culture is based around self-sacrifice and public service, and they consider getting thrown through buildings by kaiju a form of recreation." Now that the dirt is cleaned away, a smear of antiseptic ointment goes over the cut on Hiroyuki's cheekbone, and he winces away and is pulled back by Homare's hand on his face to get another bandage. "Anyway, the next time you decide to go get in trouble at a seijin dive bar, call me first. Especially given that that's what you're supposed to be doing anyway."

The grin is slightly less broad this time, because if nothing else Hiroyuki knows better than to disturb a bandage that Homare just put down. He says, "Definitely, I'll remember to do that," just like he said the last three times he got in over his head.

Homare stares at him, thumb still pressing down on the edge of his cheekbone, and then nods. "Good. I worry about you." A beat. He leans forward, pauses, leans forward more, pauses again--

I don't get all the Go/Chase hype. Chase is so innately aroace to me, and Go is so deadset on hating Roidmudes for 98% of the season that he barely *knows* Chase, and I just really don't see the chemistry. I feel like I'm just not seeing it. Maybe with a lot of work they could have a queerplatonic thing, but I just don't see the Romance.

I understand what you mean! I wouldn't say that Chase ever felt aro to me--apart from anything else I always got an intensely romantic sense from his attachment to Kiriko--but then again, I love romance of all kinds and am always looking for it in things. I certainly don't think it's unreasonable to read him that way, though, especially in comparison to the Heart-Brain-Medic trio and all of their extravagant mess.

Regarding the Gou/Chase ship, I didn't see it myself for much of the show, for the same reason you cite of Gou's intense hatred of Roidmudes. Then, though, you get the last few episodes, in which they work together somewhat, and which leads up to Chase's death and Gou's intense despair at it, and equally intense shock at his own despair, and I think that's a lot of it, that there's a tragic aspect to the entire thing. That's definitely a lot of what compels me, that sense of Gou not having known what he had until it was gone, with then the exciting edge of "but Chase could come back someday;" it's very similar to the end state of Eiji and Ankh's relationship in OOO, but with a much faster buildup.

Apart from that, I think there's a couple of other things that really get people about it:

Inaba Yuu (Gou's actor) is very very pretty and people want to see him get kissed, but the next most reasonable shipping prospect is Shinnosuke, who canonically marries Kiriko, and given that Kiriko is Gou's sister I think that makes it weird for a lot of people

Katono Taiko (Chase's actor) is very very pretty and people want to see him get kissed, but his most reasonable shipping prospects for most of the show are Kiriko (who, again, canonically marries Shinnosuke) and Heart (who also dies)

there's some kind of post-show audio drama about Gou which I haven't listened to yet in which Gou expresses an actual desire to take Chase out on a date

and also Gou's post show appearance in the Zi-O movie, Over Quartzer, in which he is desperate to retain his memories of Chase, and Chase's appearance in episode 47 of Zi-O, in which Geiz talks to him about Gou while trying to bring back his memories

24. a sleepy kiss

Kaoru's been working on a new painting and now she has a blotch of purple ink staining the hollow of her throat and Rei is maybe a little bit obsessed with it. Or, you know, maybe not obsessed with it, but it was the first thing he saw this morning, owing to having had his face pressed up against the side of her neck when he woke up. It is, specifically, waterproof india ink, which he knows because she told him yesterday that was what she was working with, and it's sort of a comma shape where it curls down over the edge of her collarbone. He wants, very vaguely, to bite it, but that would definitely wake her up.

There's a shift behind him and then an arm drapes heavily over his waist and Kouga says, very quietly, "What time did she actually come to bed?"

"Fuck, like...half past one, you know how she gets when she's working. Don't make that face at me, I can't make her sleep on schedule any more than you can."
