Building a social media following is hard. As a cosplayer I don’t tend to go for the sexier looks, so that lack of appeal loses me potential exposure. As a dancer I’m often times too busy teaching or performing to stock up my reservoir of SM footage. I don’t take a lot of selfies because I’m too busy or I feel awkward about it, and I don’t have time to book photo shoots to get real pictures. At cons I’m usually directing or shooting behind the camera, and all other times I’m probably slaving away behind a sewing machine, a computer keyboard, or running like a chicken with it’s head cutoff. And yet making a difference comes from having power, and power can help you gain influence, but influence is built off of self-promotion.
