Lots of people watch anime as a form of escapism from their life. And that's ok. Just don't watch. But to say that the parts that make you "uncomfy" should be removed and are unnecessary. Not ok.

Do you think it's uncomfortable that a girl who presents as a gyaru is constantly being assaulted? A nerdy boy is kidnapped and also sexually assaulted? A handsome jock who's home life is a wreck trying to keep up a cheerful facade because that's what expected of him?

How about the way the people in power , whether that be technologically, monetary, socially ,physically, taking advantage of people who live in the social outskirts?

To say that something would be better when you take out the core themes?

The Last Uchiha: The True Protagonist the Fandom Refused to Understand

When I was a kid, like many others, I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, Saint Seiya, and other classics. But one day, Naruto appeared on TV. I remember that blond boy with the Nine-Tailed Fox sealed inside him — the outcast who dreamed of becoming Hokage. And like everyone else, I was drawn to his light, to his story, to his so-called “heart of gold.”

But then he appeared. Sasuke Uchiha.

The dark boy. The avenger. The arrogant one. The one the fandom branded as “emo” and “traitor.” For years, I saw him the way everyone else did — without truly understanding him. Until I grew up.

The Boy Who Lost Everything

With time, I began to see what hid behind that cold stare. I saw the child who once smiled. The boy who loved his mother, admired his father, idolized his brother. A happy child… until tragedy devoured everything he had.

Sasuke wasn’t born broken; he was broken by a rotten system.

A system that used his brother as a weapon. That slaughtered his entire clan “to preserve peace.” That left a single child alive… just to carry the guilt of surviving.

From that day on, Sasuke lived through a hell no one wanted to understand. Each night, he relived the massacre through Tsukuyomi — screams, cries, pleas for mercy, the faces of decapitated infants, and his dead parents. Every dawn, he remembered the blood of his clan. Every step was an echo of a life that no longer existed. And yet, he survived.

The System’s Victim

The fandom calls him a “whiny emo bitch,” but tell me — What would you do if the system, your village, and your brother destroyed everything you loved?

What if the “hero” everyone worships defended the same system that took your family?

What if the so-called “friends” who judged you never even tried to understand you?

Sasuke wasn’t a traitor. He was the most honest victim of the shinobi lie.

While Konoha pretended to be a beacon of peace, it sacrificed children as offerings to war. While Naruto dreamed of recognition, Sasuke only wanted justice. And while Kakashi preached “protect your friends,” he denied Sasuke the right to his pain and vengeance — yet helped Shikamaru with his.

Pure hypocrisy.

Those Who Never Understood Him

Naruto never understood him. He mistook loneliness for loss, envy for empathy. He wanted to “save” Sasuke to feel like a hero, not to free him.

Sakura only idolized him and became obsessed with him in a one-sided, unrequited love. She mocked the orphan (Naruto) in front of another orphan (Sasuke). And years later, she proudly wore the symbol of the clan than her village helped destroy, as if it were a trophy.

Kakashi projected his own failures onto Sasuke. He didn’t understand him.

Itachi, the brother he loved so deeply, betrayed him in the name of false peace. He manipulated him, stole his childhood and free will — all so he could serve the same system that annihilated his clan.

And in the end, when Sasuke tried to break his chains, everyone called him a monster. But the monster wasn’t him.

The monster was the world that forced him to become one.

The True Protagonist

Sasuke Uchiha was never a side character or an antagonist. He was the antihero — the true protagonist of the series.

He’s the more human reflection: the one who bleeds, doubts, and cries in silence while the world smiles in hypocrisy.

While Naruto embodies the ideal, Sasuke embodies the reality. A child soldier, victim of fascism disguised as peace. A young man who chose to question the system instead of serving it once he learned the truth.

The only one brave enough to close his eyes and say:

“The guilty must pay.”

And yet, they chained him in the end. They married him to a woman he didn’t love. Turned him into a loyal dog for the same village that destroyed his life. They even stole his ending.

The Legacy of a Truly Free Man

Sasuke should never have been a prisoner of Konoha. He should’ve been free — free from that damn village. A leader of his own path, alongside the only ones who truly understood him: Karin, Suigetsu, and Jūgo.

Team Taka — the broken, the rejected, the misunderstood.

They didn’t judge him. They didn’t use him. They didn’t betray him.

They followed him because they believed in him.

Sasuke and Karin together could’ve lit a flame no shinobi world could ever extinguish. A legacy born from pain, but filled with truth.

The Final Reflection

Sasuke Uchiha isn’t a villain. He isn’t a brooding emo. He isn’t insane.

He’s the voice of the child who lost everything yet still stands. The most human soul in a world of tools. The silent scream of those who were used, manipulated, and forgotten.

If you ever called him a “ridiculous emo,” look again. If you ever called him arrogant, listen to his story. And if you ever thought Naruto was the hero, maybe it’s time to face the truth:

The real hero was the one who dared to question everything — the one who stood against the system.

In Gachiakuta, Regto—Rudo’s mentor—embodies the essence of knowledge, sincerity, and a heart rooted in justice. His presence reminds us that true resistance does not rely solely on anger or destruction, but on wisdom, compassion, and the courage to guide the next generation.

Among the many memorable characters in The Apothecary Diaries, Loulan stands out not through loud words or dramatic acts, but through her silence, her grace, and the quiet weight of her presence. Introduced as a breathtakingly beautiful dancer from a distant western land, she enters the inner palace like a living work of art - admired, coveted, yet fundamentally untouchable. Her elegance is not merely visual; it is a shield, a performance, a survival strategy.

In Season 1, Loulan speaks little and smiles even less. Her movements are refined, her demeanor immaculate, her expression unreadable. She seems almost otherworldly - a flawless figure carved out of restraint. And yet, there is a lingering sorrow in the air around her. She is not free, not truly seen, and certainly not loved for who she is. The palace reveres her beauty but denies her humanity.

It’s in Season 2 that the mask begins to slip. Disguised as a simple maid for a covert mission, Loulan experiences, for the first time, what it means to be ordinary and in that, free. We see her laugh, tease, explore, and connect. Her voice becomes soft and youthful. Her eyes light up. It’s in these fleeting moments that we see the real girl behind the façade - curious, playful, tender-hearted. A teenager, not a trophy.

But freedom in the palace is always temporary, and innocence is dangerous. When Loulan narrowly survives an assassination attempt orchestrated in part by her own politically ambitious parents. The tragedy of her position is fully revealed. She is not a daughter in their eyes, but a piece to be moved on a game board. A symbol. A pawn.

And yet, even when betrayed, even when caged again, Loulan never fully breaks. Her dignity endures. There’s a fragile strength in her - quiet but unyielding. She doesn’t fight with swords or speeches. Her rebellion is subtler: to remain herself in a world that only values the image she represents.

1. The Power of "Meta-Language"

One of Re-Destro’s most brilliant moves was rebranding. He didn't use the word "Quirk"—a term that implies a weird accident or a biological quirk of fate. He insisted on "Meta-Abilities."

The Logic: By calling them Meta-Abilities, he framed them as a natural human right and a part of one’s identity, rather than something that needs to be "regulated" or "suppressed" by the government.

The Result: This intellectual framing allowed him to recruit doctors, lawyers, and politicians who felt "stifled" by hero laws, making the MLA feel like a sophisticated civil rights movement rather than a gang of criminals.

3. The "Cell" Structure

Managing 100,000 people is a logistical nightmare. Re-Destro didn't manage them all personally; he used a highly decentralized cell structure. * Sleeper Agents: Most MLA members lived normal lives. They were your neighbors, your mailmen, or your local shop owners.

Radicalization: He used his ancestor Destro’s autobiography as a "Bible." By the time a recruit was brought into the fold, they weren't just followers; they were zealots willing to die for the cause. This level of loyalty is incredibly hard to break, even under interrogation.

The "Billionaire" Paradox: Re-Destro’s greatest skill was making himself indispensable to the very society he wanted to overthrow. By providing the technology heroes used, he became a "load-bearing pillar" of the economy. If the government took him down, they risked a financial collapse.

4. Why He Ultimately Failed

Despite his skill, Re-Destro suffered from "The Specialist’s Trap." He was so good at organizing a revolution that he forgot how to handle a force of nature. He prepared for a war against the government (logic, laws, and tactics), but he wasn't prepared for Tomura Shigaraki—a man who didn't want to change the world, but simply delete it.

This is the debate that’s been tearing the anime community apart for decades. Three legends. Three completely different philosophies. Three generations of fans who will fight to the death defending their favorite.

Naruto Uzumaki. Monkey D. Luffy. Son Goku.

Who’s the greatest shonen protagonist of all time? I’ve watched all three series multiple times, studied their characters, analyzed their journeys, and I finally have my answer. But before I tell you who wins, let’s break down what makes each one special - and where they fall short.

This is gonna be controversial. Let’s go.

NARUTO UZUMAKI: THE DREAMER WHO NEVER GAVE UP

What Makes Him Great:

Naruto’s journey is the most emotionally resonant of the three. He starts as a literal outcast - a kid everyone in the village hates because he has a demon sealed inside him. No parents. No friends. No acknowledgment. Just pure, crushing loneliness.

What makes Naruto special is that he CHANGES throughout the series. He goes from a loud, attention-seeking kid who wants to be Hokage for recognition to a mature leader who understands that being Hokage means protecting everyone, even your enemies.

Naruto believes in redemption. He believes that anyone can change. He literally talks his enemies into becoming his allies - Pain, Obito, even Sasuke eventually. That’s not plot armor, that’s genuine character growth that earns him the title of Hokage.

Where He Falls Short: Naruto becomes a Jesus figure by the end. The “chosen one” prophecy, the reincarnation of Ashura, being the son of the Fourth Hokage - all that destiny stuff cheapens his underdog story. He went from “hard work beats talent” to “actually you were special the whole time.”

Also, his solution to every problem is “talk no jutsu.” While it’s emotionally powerful, it gets predictable. Not every villain needs a redemption arc, Naruto.

Naruto Score: 8.5/10

MONKEY D. LUFFY: THE FREEST MAN ON THE SEAS

What Makes Him Great:

Luffy is the most UNIQUE protagonist of the three. While Naruto and Goku want recognition or strength, Luffy just wants to be free. He doesn’t want to rule anyone. He turned down a 5,000-man pirate fleet. He has zero interest in fame or power for its own sake.

What sets Luffy apart is that he doesn’t change - he changes EVERYONE AROUND HIM. He’s a catalyst. He inspires people to chase their own dreams. He liberates kingdoms not because he wants to be a hero, but because his friends’ enemies become his enemies.

Luffy is also the smartest fighter of the three when it comes to strategy. He’s not book smart, but in battle, he’s incredibly creative and adaptable. His use of Gear 5 proves this - he uses “cartoon physics” to fight in ways that are completely unpredictable.

Where He Falls Short:

Luffy has almost ZERO character development. He’s the same reckless, impulsive person in chapter 1 as he is 1,000 chapters later. While his static nature is part of his charm, it also means he doesn’t grow emotionally the way Naruto does.

Also, Luffy is terrible at actually LEADING in a traditional sense. He makes reckless decisions that put his crew in danger constantly. He’s more of an inspiration than an actual leader.

Luffy Score: 9/10

SON GOKU: THE PURE-HEARTED WARRIOR

What Makes Him Great:

Goku is the FOUNDATION of shonen protagonists. Every character after him is influenced by his DNA. He’s simple, pure-hearted, and lives for the thrill of fighting strong opponents. There’s something beautiful about his simplicity.

Goku doesn’t care about ruling, recognition, or revenge. He just wants to get stronger and fight worthy opponents. He’s the ultimate embodiment of “fair play” - he literally gives his enemies senzu beans so they can fight him at full strength.

He’s also the most POWERFUL of the three by a mile. Ultra Instinct Goku operates on a completely different level of existence. He moves without thinking, fights gods casually, and can destroy universes if he wanted to.

Where He Falls Short:

Goku has ZERO depth as a character. He’s a manchild who abandons his family to train and fight. He died and chose to stay dead for years because he thought Earth would be safer without him - that’s not noble, that’s just being a bad father.

Goku also lacks any real ideology beyond “getting stronger.” He doesn’t inspire people to be better. He doesn’t change the world. He just fights. Compare that to Naruto’s dream of peace or Luffy’s mission of freedom - Goku just… wants to fight.

Goku Score: 7/10

Here’s why: Luffy represents the BEST of what shonen protagonists can be. He’s not perfect, but he’s perfectly WRITTEN. He doesn’t need to change because he’s already the embodiment of pure freedom and unwavering loyalty. His static nature isn’t a weakness - it’s his greatest strength.

Naruto’s journey is more emotional, but it gets messy with the chosen one stuff. Goku is iconic but lacks depth. Luffy is the perfect balance - he’s inspiring without being preachy, powerful without being invincible, and his ideology of freedom resonates across cultures.

But here’s the real answer: They’re all great for different reasons.
