The war started without warning. Hundreds upon thousands of high-tech alien creatures called the Primordians attacked from shores, invading in waves, destroying buildings and devouring any human they come across. It took months for humanity to respond to the devastating raid at all, and even as Final City began to form, all hope still seemed to be lost… until Anima Squad was formed.

Anima Squad

The organization was born out of an equal mix of desperation and determination, a last attempt at rebellion in a world viciously torn by an alien invasion. As the surviving humans—broken and nearly defeated—built tall walls and set up base in a newly formed Final City, a fighter named Riven volunteered to join a group of fellow fighters, researchers and inventors that eventually became the skilled line of defense known as Anima Squad—with Riven herself as Commander, alongside Sarah Fortune as her second-in-command, Vayne as their communications and intel expert, Aurora as their research specialist, and Yasuo as their special agent for one-man strikes.

Anima Squad’s most prominent invention is AnimaTech—technology salvaged from the Primordians themselves, adapted to suit human needs. Battle Bunny Aurora pioneered this breakthrough, and with her discovery Anima Squad was able to craft weapons and battle suits powerful enough to let them hold their ground against the Primordians.

The survivors slowly adapted in Final City and the squad’s technology evolved, but so did the Primordians. One fateful, brutal raid a couple years after the squad’s establishment, the team lost contact with Riven during the fight and the Commander mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind the team in shambles. With no luck in finding her after the raid, Sarah took on the mantle of Commander with a heavy yet hardened heart, shaken by the loss of her friend but determined to continue the fight for humanity.

The squad continued to develop over the years since then, creating more city defenses, better weapons and recruiting more members, forming a surprisingly energetic group of various personalities that made the team feel more like family than mere fellow fighters to everyone involved. Eventually the team grew big enough for Sarah to promote cheerful and diligent Seraphine to Commander while she herself became Admiral—and not long after her promotion, the team picked up a distress signal that may have belonged to Riven…

Primordians

Very little is known about the Primordians’ origins, only that they have been around for a very long time—centuries, at least. Not even Aurora has figured out where they came from or what they truly are—were they perhaps dinosaurs, but mutated somehow? Extraterrestrial creatures stranded on Earth? The answer has yet to be discovered, but most people simply called them aliens. Perhaps it was true.

What wasn’t known to most people was that the Primordians didn’t always have the staggering numbers they have today. Over the years, their Grand General Aatrox steadily built his army, overseen by Primordian Queen Bel’Veth, hatching thousands upon thousands of these creatures until the deepest trenches of the ocean, too deep to be noticed by humans, were overflowing with Primordians of different shapes and sizes, ready to invade and take over the surface.

Primordian blood is a curious thing. It’s always hungry, seeking the essences of other lifeforms to become one with and mutate into something new. It’s because of this curious trait that Aatrox was able to create his army—by mixing samples of his blood with various creatures of the deep. Once formed, they would hatch into a new bloodthirsty Primordian, sporting features of the creature it was merged with, and they would continue to grow and reproduce. While other Primordian bodily fluids like saliva have no effect on other living beings, ingesting their blood might create undesirable results (something that a man named Kayn would later unintentionally demonstrate).

Most Primordians don’t think for themselves. The minions are connected to a hive mind, and only act on their basic instincts. All Primordians were born with a powerful desire to kill and feed on the flesh of surface-dwellers, and very few have the intelligence to control that instinct.

The current swarm of Primordians dwell in the sea not too far from Final City, but they live far too deep in the ocean for humans to access. However, it seems like the only way to stop the war is to dive into the Primordian base and destroy it alongside both their leaders, and humanity doesn’t have access to such technology… yet.
