The “A Nightmare On Elm Street” franchise has officially moved up into 2nd place of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE Horror Movie Franchises (tied with the “Friday The 13th” franchise, respectively). (Exclamation point, exclamation point).
This happened a while ago, but I’ve been so busy recently.
It WAS in 3rd place, but something must have happened recently that changed that. So, now it’s tied in 2nd place with Friday The 13th. A fitting companion to have in 2nd place of my ALL-TIME FAVE HORROR FRANCHISE. So, there ya go.
..I guess this one is for the Dream Warriors..(“DREEEAAAAAM WARRRIOOORRRRS!!.. DON’T WANNA DREAM NO MORRRE!!.. DREEEAAAAAM WARRRIORRRRS!!..” WOOOOOOOOOOO, “BIIIIIIIIIIITCH!!!!!!!!!!!”)
..ya know. It was the DREEEAAAAAM WARRRIORRRRS-Okay. I’m done. No, but seriously..
It was the Dre[ee]a[aaaa]m War[rr]ior[rr]s that changed the result from 3rd place (currently held strong by the “Psycho” franchise; another very formidable cinematic legacy of horror) to 2nd place. So, it’s a testament to the third film, “A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: DREAM WARRIORS.” It’s probably the ONLY horror film that makes me cry (in the end; I won’t ruin it for you). That cast did a very special job on that film (not that I was there or anything), and it’s a perfect example of when good writing meets incredible performances in a horror film (heck, in any genre).
I could say the same thing about the “SCREAM” franchise, but I believe, if the first 3 ‘Nightmare On Elm St.’ movies where to stand alone AS a Trilogy - it would actually be a Perfect Trilogy.
If the ‘Nightmare On Elm St.’ movies never made any more past part 3, it would have been a perfect trilogy. The second film would have worked as a perfect bridge to get to the third film. More importantly, the overall character arc for the main characters from the first movie come back full circle in the third movie (don’t get me started on part four. I LOVE that one! It’s my personal fave of the franchise).
All in all I just thought it was good to bring everyone up to speed on this brief update in my life.
Post-Script: On second thought.. I said the "Psycho" franchise is my 3rd ALL-TIME Fave Horror franchise. I believe I said that the "Poltergeist" franchise is my 3rd ALL-TIME FAVE Horror franchise (I think I said this on my instagram account [now defunct]) some time ago). So, for accuracy's sake (and for anyone who actually cares enough to follow/notate any of my movie rankings I've mentioned throughout the years; hope you enjoy the list-making as much as I enjoy sharing my opinion on such matters).
Don't ask me why I did not check my instagram to verify this for myself.. I'd prefer to do these movie rankings in my head before I sprinkle some knowledge your way (of the movie variety, of course). It keeps things fun for me, too (I guess).
So, 'A Nightmare on Elm Street" is my 2nd ALL-TIME FAVORITE HORROR FRANCHISE (tied with 'Friday the 13th') AND 'Psycho' & 'Poltergeist' are my 3rd ALL-TIME FAVORITE HORROR FRANCHISE (tied).
I have to say "Psycho 2" is an incredible movie, and so is "Poltergeist 3." You know what?.. they're all solid. Totally legit movies (despite some inconsistencies in part four, narratively speaking). All around. Highly provocative & thought-provoking material here. Same applies to 'Nightmare on Elm St.' (when they're not going balls-to-the-wall with the horror). Gruesome pictures, but excellent movie-making. Horror movies need more appreciation from everyday film-goers.
This one's for the true fans of horror.
