Regarding the Puzzles and RGB drama
Maybe this will get me on some people’s bad side, but I just have to get this off my chest because I’ve seen more and more people feel guilty for ever liking Mr Puzzles as a character.
First of all, the hate Mod got is absolutely unacceptable and probably will forever piss me off about this fandom. The sheer stupidity of some people to go after others for the most banal reasons. Especially since RGB existed way before Mr Puzzles. This fandom has a real toxicity problem and it’s been getting more and more apparent over the last years.
That being said, do I think Mr Puzzles is a plagiarized version of RGB? No. No, I really don’t think the designers intended him to be. The similarities pointed out between them are pretty generic things for a TV character design. I’ve seen people put RGB and Puzzles side by side and claim they are nearly identical which I find hilarious because these two not only have completely different color schemes aside from the smile but also neither the same personality nor story.
You can argue that the whole SMG4 show was a parody and while that is true, the character that get “ripped off” are insanely popular or mainstream characters. Not those of small indie creators.
Tell a person that doesn’t know RGB to design a villainous show host and they will most likely look for a gentleman like outfit and traits of a TV like the color bars of a static screen and add it to the look. It should also be mentioned that that smile only drips when his screen in broken so it’s not even a constant trait of this face.
It’s not even the same hat as RGB, and the shoes may be of the same kind but still look incredibly different in color and structure. I think that last trait was the most ridiculous for me because you really have to overanalyze to see a similarity there.
Im not even going to get into the air vent and knob part because those are basic TV traits. Guys please, do you want to accuse every second TV character? RGB is his own wonderful character with his own charm, but he doesn’t own these design traits.
Then there is people rallying up to write the SMG4 Team about the issue which frankly has me scratching my head because the show is over. Mr Puzzles has been handed off to another separate creative team.
What do you want GLITCH to do about this? The harassment didn’t even come from them, it’s the fandom. I’m not going to lie but some people out there hating against Puzzles designer for frankly questionable plagiarism allegations are just as bad as the people who harassed Mod.
Insulting and trashtalking is absolutely not the answer.
People should learn that character based on a similar concept can have similar traits. That does NOT make them the same. RGB as well as Puzzles are their own character with their own stories and designs. Differentiate them. Appreciate the other or both without harassing the creators. Call out the people that hate, that harass. Fight against the fandom toxicity not against each other.
This fight about who is more legit and who needs to change designs is making both sides miserable.
