 Does Myles separate his work and private life?

Yes. 

It’s a big reason he keeps his home so private/secretive from people both in his work life and personal life. Reason #1 is his brother and reason #2 is that he doesn’t need his work coming home with him. He is very likely to have friends outside of those he knows from work and makes it an aggressive point to have both sides never meet so that he can sit and play pretend that he’s a normal boy. …..Not that he has many friends to begin with.

For example would he ever tell his significant other what his job entails?

NO.

Unless his significant other already knew what he did – and even if they knew, they may not know the specific details – he would never voluntarily tell them about his work unless they asked. Even then he would be extremely hesitant to open up about it. He may dance around the issue or give a half truth – yes, he collects information and things, settles debts, etc. How?  By ripping the teeth out of the people and breaking each of their joints one by one until they spill the beans or they’re dead. Is he gonna say that last part without prodding? Probably not. 

Myles is very good at what he does, he’s one of the best, but there are many times in which his work gets his hands dirty. He can snap and become chaotic, violent, unpredictable, unsightly, and just say and do things that shatter the perfect image of normalcy he’s constantly trying to project. His pride comes from being able to control himself, to bottle up the gross parts of him so that the outside can’t quite see him for what he is and his job tears that to shreds. 

Just because he’s good at it, doesn’t mean he likes it. Like… yes, he gets self indulgent, yes, his chaotic wild side rips through him and he can lose himself in the sheer suffering of another and go a bit overboard, but when it’s over the most he feels is a combination of satisfaction and depressive guilt.  Maybe not for what he did, but for how he went about it. His image is everything to him and every time it breaks, he has to tighten the noose around his neck to hold together the shattered pieces.

So to have his partner know, or to tell them about what he does in any sort of detail would be like peeling a layer of his skin off to see the disgusting parts inside and he very firmly believes that if they knew, they would leave him. That exposing the gross imperfect bits is setting himself up for failure.

It’s also why he tends to gravitate towards people who despise him because it’s so much easier to be his volatile self when the other person doesn’t give a fuck about him. So why keep appearances? Why when you can hate him just as much as he hates himself and god does he love to revel in the feeling of self loathing projected back at him through another’s eyes –

And surprisingly, it doesn’t take that much to get him there once you have your foot in the door. Acts of betrayal by people he’s trusted, being confined, being trapped (physically), any sort of extreme pain – he has a lot of bark for having a body that’s so easy to break and when he does finally snap, it depends on what or who brought him to the brink. 

If it’s something, some event outside of his or anyone else’s control : He has a complete meltdown. He will full on panic and struggle, crying, the whole nine yards. I think once he got his arm trapped between something and he couldn’t free himself, so in his sheer panic he tried to break his arm to free it which turned out to be unsuccessful and just left him there to melt into a pathetic puddle of himself. 

Breaking or removing any parts of him physically will make him lose his fucking mind. He prides himself on appearing and looking normal or perfect and if you take that away from him, he will make it a point in his life to hunt you down and destroy everything you know any love. He will drop his entire life’s work to ensure that it all focuses on the person and their demise. 

If it’s someone – Myles is quick to submit. He emotionally cuts himself off and, in an attempt to preserve himself, will become devoid of all emotions towards the person. He goes into a survival mode, to get out on the other side alive and breathing is his goal and he’s patient enough that, even if he can’t do it now, in the future he will get even and he will get his revenge.

It is rare that he will ever isolate himself and if he does, he won’t do it for long.  Just long enough to compose himself and get a plan together to how he will get through the issue. 

To date : things like the above have very very very rarely happened (I think only twice?) and mainly in his canon. It’s hard to get him to that point if it’s someone in passing, so most acts probably have to come from someone he knows or is close to. 

In Myles’ canon, the testing phase in which they were introducing the alien genes into him was what brought about his intense fear of hospitals, needles, and doctors, and is pretty much guaranteed to send him over the edge. If anyone has ever heard me talk about how Myles is sick, you’ll also hear me talk about how Myles will stab you and let himself bleed out on the ground before he goes back to a hospital. Being trapped in confined spaces is a product of his brother consistently trying to bury him alive as a kid –
