Deity Drop 3: Angradd
The youngest of the three brothers at the head of the dwarven pantheon, Angradd is the dwarven god of fire, tradition, and warfare, specifically aggressive warfare, as unlike his brother Torag, he would rather seek out the enemies of dwarfkind and destroy them before they set anywhere near the walls and homes of dwarvenkind or any other goodly people.
Among his kin, he is considered brash, and perhaps more concerned with the good of all than the rule of law, but they admit he has a good heart and a righteous drive. However, while he is bolder than most of his kin, he is far from foolish, and teaches his followers to plan for the fight ahead of time, measuring their own strength and cunning against that of their foe to plan the best course of attack. Thus, while a lesser evil might escape his wrath for a time, it is not beneath his notice, and will be attended to when he and his followers are ready to destroy the evil and wickedness fully, leaving no trace behind.
Angradd also values honesty and integrity, as this is how he believes that people become worthy to be protectors, as well as stand as symbols of justice and truth that people may look up to.
He is depicted as a radiant blond dwarf adorned in golden armor and wielding a burning greataxe, exactly as you would expect for a god of dwarven warfare and righteousness.
His home is the Tempering Chamber, a subsection of Torag’s realm of Forgeheart, deep beneath the cosmic mountain of Heaven. There, he and his servants train in preparation to face the forces of darkness, as well as serve as a fortress should fiendish forces ever try to invade the divine mountain by tunnelling underneath it.
As one might expect, Angradd is primarily worshiped by dwarves, particularly those with a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect their kin. Paladins are favored among his worship as well, as are more militant priests. Outside dwarvenkind, his worshippers are rare, but not nonexistent.
Naturally, Angradd is on good terms with the rest of his pantheon, though many find him brash, and his sister Dangritt the Debt-Minder finds him too prudent. However, he is respected by all for his dedication. I imagine outside of the pantheon, he is well-respected by the gods of good, and feared and reviled by his enemies.
Archons, particularly lantern archons, are common among his servants, though the bastion archon Bright Lady of Strategy is particularly well known. He also counts many azer among his followers as well, and perhaps a few of the Chalkost servants of his brother Torag, though obviously most of those serve the head of the pantheon directly.
While a lesser divinity, Angradd rules over the domains of Fire, Good, Law, and War, with the subdomains of Archon (either by way of Good or Law), Ash, Smoke, and Tactics. All are fitting for his role as a warrior god of fire.
Meanwhile, his domains in second edition revolve around fate, fire, protection, and zeal. The last three make sense for his role as a god with many paladins in his service, but the fate domain seems a bit of a stretch, though I suppose it makes sense for his all or nothing attitude towards defeating evil. In any case, clerics of his faith are blessed with knowledge of many fire spells, ranging from simple blasts of fire to divine words that literally scorch their foes.
Those who wish to demonstrate greater obedience to Angradd may do so, ritualistically blackening the head of an axe with fire while reciting prayers to either him or his family members, then wiping the blade clean with red cloth. Said axe retains some measure of the fires heat as long as a lawful or good wielder holds in dealing a bit of extra fiery harm to foes.
From there, his evangelists embody his fiery righteousness, gaining spells to deal harm with fire and hot ash, as wells as reveal secrets with light. From there, they are blessed with a righteous fury which lets them ignore physical harm, and a zeal that lets them inspire allies, bolstering them when they work together to bring down foes.
Meanwhile, the exalted invoke divine flame and wrath to punish evil, gaining spells to bless weapons with light and flame, as well as sear foes with their words. They also can surround themselves in divine flame to protect themselves and scorch nearby foes, and call forth fiery servants of their god to do battle.
Sentinels, meanwhile, call upon Angradd’s personal skill as a warrior, gaining more fiery spells to blast foes and bless a weapon with the flame of judgement. Meanwhile, they also master the power to cleave through foes with mighty blows, and summon a horde of spiritual weapons or warriors to aid them in battle.
Unlike most of the divinities we have covered so far in these specials, Angradd actually does have a confirmed place in the far future of Starfinder, having taken over for his brother Torag as head of the dwarven pantheon after his mysterious disappearance during The Gap. Angradd follows much the same portfolio and philosophy as before, but now also works to help preserve dwarven tradition and culture in these trying times. However, he secretly worries whether he can truly guide the dwarven people as well as his brother could.
Another deity down, but we’re not even halfway done with this week! Look forward to more deities!
