People are always saying that if Jeremy wasn't wearing the Gilbert ring when Damon killed him, would Elena still forgive him?
The real question should be, Would Stefan still defend his murderous brother to Elena after Damon permanently murders her baby brother because she dare reject him?
Because this is what happened when Damon snapped Jeremy's neck in front of Elena as she cried No! in 2x01:
Elena was on the floor, cradling her 15 year old brother's corpse, Stefan standing behind her.
Stefan: He saw the ring, that's why he did it. He knew.
Elena: He didn't see the ring.
Stefan: It's Katherine. She got under his skin. She undid everything that was good about him.
Elena: There's nothing good about him.
Stefan, like he always has and always will, defended his serial killer, rap*st brother far before Elena ever did. Far more than Elena ever could. Or would. He has been doing it for long over a century, longer than Stefan's girlfriend has existed. Because that's what Stefan does. He defends and protects Damon from the consequences of his own actions, thus enabling Damon to keep murdering and rap*ng innocents. When Damon rap*d and tried to kill Caroline, Stefan came up with the nonsense plan of locking him, as if jail time for a couple decades would work on an immortal psycho. When Damon rap*d Andy Starr, Stefan murdered her, murdered the victim, so her abuser would feel bad and not go after Stefan, so Damon could be safe.
These two brothers are the worst thing that can happen to a girl. Just look at poor Elena Gilbert.
There is no such thing as a Good Salvatore Brother. Such a creature does not exist.
They both suck.
