It never fails. Racists are so predictable. Any time a Black woman gets a role that's been previously played by White women, the racists have to whine and bitch about it. Helen of Troy isn't real. Athena isn't real. Any woman of any ethnicity and nationality could play these roles. It's never that serious.
In 1950, Orson Welles cast Eartha Kitt as Helen of Troy in his avant-garde stage production, Time Runs (also known as The Blessed and the Damned), in Paris.
Because Helen of Troy is a purely mythological figure—the legendary daughter of the Greek god Zeus and Leda—and not a documented historical person, performers of diverse ethnic backgrounds are frequently cast to reinterpreting her character on stage and screen.
Zendaya is playing Athena but it's not the first time a non White woman has played this role. Athena has been played by Audra Day.
Andra Day: The Grammy-winning singer and actress was cast to portray Athena in the second season of the Disney+ live-action series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
