Many Spanish riders have chosen to make Andorra their home. The small principality offers significantly lower taxes than Spain, where high-profile athletes have frequently faced investigations and legal disputes over unpaid taxes.

Marc Marquez, however, has chosen to remain in Spain despite the higher tax burden. According to Marquez, financial considerations were never the deciding factor. Instead, Marquez believes Madrid offers him the best environment to train, recover and prepare for racing, with his support team and specialised equipment all based there.

As Marquez said.

"Of course, I understand that anyone who wants to move house is free to do so, I feel free when I live where I want to live. Of course I earn a lot of money. Even after I’ve paid my taxes, I still have a great deal left over. That helps, of course. Nevertheless, money was not the deciding factor in his decision. I feel at home in Spain and want to live where I have the best conditions to perform at my best on the racetrack.

Back then, I was relaxed. I didn’t need any physiotherapists or special equipment. Since my injury, I’ve needed specialised equipment, physiotherapists and a different kind of training. That’s why I moved to Madrid – because I found a good team and a good training centre there. I always live wherever I believe I have the best conditions for performing better on the racetrack."
