Hi, here I am in your ask again. I was wondering something about Kurt. I'm sure you recall the scene in Sexy where he seems scared about sex. Are there any theories as to why? Might he be asexual? Simply uncomfortable with the idea of it now or with Blaine? Does it have something to do with Dave? Can you help me out here?
Finally getting around to this- I definitely don't think Kurt is asexual at all and I think his discomfort about sex is completely normal given his situation and what he's been through.
Firstly, it's sadly pretty normal for a lot of GLBT teenagers to have fucked up views of sex. A lot of them, especially kids like Kurt who grow up in small towns in the Midwest, don't have any example of gay couple to look to and certainly don't have any examples of gay couples being physically affectionate in public. They don't see gay couples on TV in bed together, or see gay teenagers have a romantic first time in the season finale of 90210 or Gossip Girl or whatever. Straight sex is everywhere, it's normal, it's expected. The vast majority of straight people (once they've hit puberty and learned about sex), while probably nervous about it, think about sex as something perfectly normal that everyone does that they will someday do too. It's not like that, especially for kids like Kurt who realize that they're gay at an early age. He doesn't have very many examples to look to that aren't gay porn and he knows that thats definitely NOT what he wants, so he pulls back from sex and sexuality because he doesn't know how to navigate it in a way that would actually make him happy.
Now let's add on top of this Kurt's personal experiences- Finn and Burt basically shamed him for making any sort of advances (sexual or otherwise) on Finn and later Sam. Karofsky, who had terrorized Kurt, forced a kiss on him without his consent and then threatened to kill him. Blaine, the only other out gay boy Kurt had ever become friends with, had just made fun of Kurt's attempt at being sexy. Really, it's no wonder Kurt was scared of sex at the time! He hadn't exactly had a lot (or any) positive experiences related to it.
Now with all that said, Kurt's still a 16 year old boy with all that comes along with that and I don't think any of these things have messed him up to the point where he would need therapy or anything. He just needs someone he can trust wholeheartedly to be patient with him while he eases into the sexual side of a relationship. Once he's in a happy, healthy long-term relationship, I think the sex will come naturally when they're both ready and that Kurt won't have any problems beyond the normal nerves and such.
