I have this one friend who I haven’t seen in like three months and even before I got home like a month ago I got in touch and was like ‘hey it’s been so long I’d love to see you!!!’ and she didn’t respond for a week and when she did it was ‘I’d love to see you later this week!’ and I said yeah cool and gave some days I was free and then she didn’t respond for a week (after all of the days I originally said I was free) and when she did it was ‘oh I’m not around this weekend I’ve made plans but id love to see you next week!’ and I said oh okay we’ll let me know when you’ll know what your schedule is and she didn’t respond for four or five days and then said oh I’m free Friday and Sunday and I said oh ok I’m free Friday idk about Sunday and then on Thursday she said oh I have plans tomorrow now I’m free on Sunday and I said ok I have plans Sunday now but could very maybe do the morning idk and. ok. I was already like. Feeling v bummed about all of this and like. ok cool like seeing me is not a priority here, clearly. given the amount you don’t respond to me until you’ve already filled all of your free time with other more interesting plans.
this was. a week and a half ago?
ok so then,
her young, and adorable, and very sweet and good, cat died unexpectedly and by vague description it seems in a decently traumatic way. so she couldn’t do Sunday and this seems fair to me. and the last text I got from her was she was gonna take some space. (this is not entirely true the last text I got from her also bummed me out for personal reasons but in context that’s not important). and that makes complete sense to me.
and. like. 1) idk whether/when it would be the case that I ‘should’ get in touch w her again in a different context. 2) I’m feeling hurt! by everything before her cat died. actually. and specifically in that I feel like I’m chasing after this friendship that is just. not a priority for her. which leads me to not… want to chase after it. but 3) I feel like disappearing on her now is like. maybe she needs ppl to be showing up more actively? but if I try to ask she uh. Will Not Respond. actually. bc she doesn’t respond to texts.
anyway. just uhhh. feeling a little stuck on this one. feel like I’ve figured out dealing w everybody else who behaved in ways that felt shitty for me in the last month. at least mostly. but not her bc I already would have had a hard time figuring out how much to build boundaries and then an objectively terrible thing happened and it’s hard to find the balance between boundaries and supportive through terrible and hard things.
