Why are we so insistent on claiming something is false because it doesn't align with our personal view? In historical fandoms specifically? No you don't need to necessarily like Penelope and Odysseus' age gap and you can headcanon it otherwise if you wish — but it still remains truth that it is there. No you don't need to like cousins marrying cousins but that doesn't mean you get to deny the validity of these relationships.
When you are engaging in a piece of work written centuries ago or written in years faraway from the current one, you do not need to like how their customs do not align with our own views. However, you need to stop acting as if anyone/anything portraying accuracy to those customs is some sort of punishable crime. Do not engage with historical fiction/historical works if you require it to fit your modern palate. It is very unlikely it will. It is also ridiculous to expect other people to do so.
