Roman is a runaway palace guard in hiding, Virgil is an archmage who yearns for freedom, they’re gay as hell. The griffin is Logan. The royal Roman is running from is the awful parent of prince Janus, who just happens to also be in love with Roman and Virgil and chases them across the country about it <3
