Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has suspended a road contract issued to NBHH Engineering Company. When the governor paid an unannounced visit to the site on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, he announced the immediate termination of the road project contract and chastised the corporation for incompetence and delay in delivering nine roads totaling 14.053 kilometers in Okpoko. Soludo, who addressed the project's supervisor, stated: "This road was meant to be completed by June of last year. Eight months later, you have failed to finish it. You lack the ability to accomplish the job. The assignment was meant to last nine months, and you were suitably mobilized.  “This is February 20 and you are supposed to have delivered the job. It shows that you are totally incompetent to do the job. After we paid you 50 per cent mobilization. There is nowhere in the country that 50 per cent is paid. Anambra state govt shuts down all casinos and gaming centres over ‘criminal activities’ The Anambra state government has directed the immediate suspension of operations of casinos and gaming centers in the state over alleged fraudulent and criminal activities. The state Commissioner of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Donatus Onyenji, chairman of Anambra state internal revenue service, Richard Madiebo, and Chikodi Angra, the commissioner for homeland affairs, disclosed this a statement jointly released. According to the state government, it received a worrisome number of petitions pertaining to the manipulation of casino machines and non-transparency in payment for winnings. It said the allegations amounted to serious abuse of global best practices in the industry which the government under the watch of Chukwuma Soludo would not condone. “This fraudulent practice will not be allowed to thrive under the watch of Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and therefore must be dealt with immediately. Consequently, the Anambra government hereby directs operators of casino games in Hotels, Restaurant and Bars to suspend all Gaming and Casino operations with immediate effect pending the conclusion of investigations.”the statement read in part The government has therefore called for a meeting of all hotel owners and managers in the state on October 21 at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre. It said the meeting which is mandatory would address issues of enumeration and validation of hotel licenses as well as security.
