she says i really should be eating more shrimps, as pastel pink as my feathers have gotten lately

i would be painted a darker shade if i didn’t starve myself some days but… sometimes eating doesn’t interest me as much as pressing into her fragile feathers, mine alone to touch

[ we keep to ourselves, the humans haven’t spotted her again since we perused the south coast of Cyprus in 2015 ]

she makes sure i eat my shrimp & prawns, i carefully preen our nest in lonesome moments

it’s woven of the softest materials i could get ahold of, and weaving any new strand into the mix… i make sure it’s free any thorns

birds are not overthinkers. she never let a thorn into her nest’s weavings, and she did not hesitate to remove any grippy burr from the moment it was felt but…

two truths existed simultaneously

she knew it was such effort to keep ducking into the intensity of Mediterranean waters for such small morsels of food,

she knew better to stay in that mindset, learning by example

her lovely mate was a rare bird, but despite all odds… that divine thing had chosen her

chosen her to make such a beautiful nest with me, when instead she could have had offspring, a legacy, but instead her beautiful inky feathers ending with with the last beat of her heart

i hoard all her moments as my own selfishly, and she worries over me still. she finds me the prettiest, and i scoff

she is the prettiest, the flock just convinced her that her strange black feathers made her too different, unattractive. they look for the darkest shades of pink and…

how don’t they see that her feathers are the prettiest of all by that measure? she believes them over me too, the flock…

Another piece I made for class.

This one was an analogous colour scheme and landscape. tbh I just went on geoguesser and found a place to draw. It was surprisingly fun, I recommend! Though perhaps next time I would simplify... idk I'm working on my background skills. This was like a year ago or something.

I wasn't allowed to change the colours as thar was part of the project. I think it looks fun though! Learned a lot ^^
