25 years ago... Omega Speedmaster X-33 alarm chronograph ! In February 1996, Omega tested their specially developed Speedmaster X-33 analog-digital chronograph onboard space shuttle Columbia STS-75 at the wrist of Swiss astronaut Claude Nicollier. In September 1996, the Omega Speedmaster X-33 alarm chronograph flew again, this time on the wrist of astronaut William Readdy onboard space shuttle Atlantis STS-79 mission. However, it took until January-February 1998 for NASA & Omega to officially send the first generation of X-33 Speedmaster alarm chronographs to space onboard space shuttle Endeavour STS-89 mission, the 8th shuttle-Mir docking mission, which carried a set of X-33 Speedmaster chronographs to the Russian Mir space station. In March 1998, these Omega Speedmaster X-33 alarm chronographs were presented to the world during a live TV press conference by cosmonauts Nikolaï Budarin and Talgat Musabayev. Nowadays, the Omega Speedmaster X-33 alarm chronograph is an indispensable toolwatch for both astronauts & cosmonauts onboard the ISS - International Space Station. (Photo: NASA)

January 1998, the STS-89 commander Terrence Wilcutt hugs NASA astronaut David Wolf who stayed 127 days onboard the Russian Mir space station and was replaced by NASA astronaut Andrew Thomas, the 7th long-duration US resident onboard Mir. The space shuttle Endeavour STS-89 crew conducted the 8th shuttle-Mir docking mission, and carried a set of X-33 Speedmaster alarm chronographs to the Russian Mir space station.
