Amputee!Jon Headcanons
Because thereâs no evidence heâs not an amputee, and @gerrydelano encouraged me
He was born without his right foot and uses a prosthetic leg
hated talking about his leg as a kid
more comfortable talking about it now, but still only really talks about it with people he knows and trusts. if a stranger sees his prosthesis and asks about it, heâll answer, but he isnât happy about it
doesnât generally like to draw attention to his leg. the socket of his prosthesis roughly matches his skin tone, and unless itâs really hot, he avoids wearing shorts/things that would show his legs.
his discomfort showing/talking about his leg is partly because heâs a fairly private, reserved person and partly because he hasnât had the chance to meet many other amputees
a big part of why I like having colorful sockets, talking about my leg, etc is that I went to a lot of camps and things like that for amputees as a kid. I got to have friends and role models like me, and they helped me be more confident about being an amputee. I donât see young Jon getting that.
(someone please get him to a support group or something. he really needs to meet some other amputees)
he feels extra guilty in season 4 when he starts compelling statements from random people because he knows what itâs like to have a stranger stare at you and ask invasive questions
on a lighter note: king of amputee/limb loss jokes
usually only makes them around people he already likes and trusts enough to discuss his leg with
but he couldnât resist with Jared Hopworth
Jared: âYou want my statement, thatâs gonna cost you another rib.â
Jon: [about to take off his prosthesis]Â âWould you take a leg instead?â
also, him being comfortable enough around someone to joke about being an amputee does not necessarily mean the other person knows how to react to those jokes. there have been multiple times when he thought he was making a funny joke and he got an awkward silence in response because the other person didnât know if they were allowed to laugh
