“BELIEVE” is the latest single from AMEN DUNES as he gears up for the release of his new LP titled ‘Freedom.’
The New York based project of Damon McMahon creates weary ass rock songs, the kind that borrow enough from the past without getting caught up in any sort of nostalgia laced fad. That being said, Amen Dunes sure knows how to make one long for some inkling of a past that we were never a part of. What I’m trying to say is that his latest single gives me some sort of feels and surpasses any of his fellow peers in that department while crafting guitar music that’s both engaging & earnest in a time where it’s sorely missed.
“Believe” is just one helluva road song, one that burns just enough to keep things moving without blowing its load unceremoniously. The guitar tone is solemn and dead on, while the rhythm is just the right kind of paced, allowing McMahon’s assured voice the proper amount of room to carry us home.
I hear the past in Amen Dunes, along with the recent flirtation of rehashing from artists like Kurt Vile and The War on Drugs, yet McMahon has found that perfect balance and feels somehow more intriguing…
