I want to think the Sons of Fëanor didn't really truly understand what it meant to grieve. They weren't alive when Míriel died and didn't fully comprehend what death meant even as their father weeped over their grandfather. They didn't understand it as they drove their swords through their kin at Alqualondë and stepped over the blood and bodies without taking a moment to consider the weight of their actions. They didn't fully understand the grief that comes with death until they had to turn away from the burning ships and try desperately to deafen themselves to Ambarto's screams.
