She’s mastered the art of work-life balance—until murder tips the scales.
Assistant professor Cara Knight juggles raising two preschoolers, teaching social work, and chasing tenure, with a dean intent on derailing her hopes. When one of her students is arrested for murdering Washington D.C.’s chief medical examiner, and Cara inserts herself into the investigation, she risks far more than her career. Convinced of her student’s innocence, Cara stumbles into a tangle of city politics, grieving families, and secrets someone would kill to keep buried.
Can she diagnose the cause of death before she too ends up in the morgue?
Murder at the Waterfront is Book Three in the Academic Mom Mysteries. If you like clever sleuths, dry humor, and twisty whodunits, then you’ll love Jacque Rosman’s well-plotted puzzle.
Dollycas's Thoughts
Cara Knight has a full life: assistant professor working toward tenure and raising two preschoolers, with her husband Seth. The last thing she needs is involvement in another murder, especially one involving one of her students. So when Tyler Hensley is arrested for murdering Washington D.C.’s chief medical examiner, she knows if she has any chance of keeping her job, she needs to clear Tyler of the crime and serve up the real killer to the police.
____
Cara Knight is a professor at the Virginia University Department of Social Work and mom of two young children. She and her husband Seth are very relatable. They are dealing with the same pressures of raising a family while trying to have successful careers. They are always on the go with little downtime.
In her quest to prove her student's innocence, Cara finds herself in the hot seat when the bodies start to pile up; the most recent takes place shortly after she met with the victim. The killer is also after her, not afraid of adding more to the body count. Cara needs answers, but those involved are holding back, and she is not receiving the help she had hoped for. Seeing all the people involved, Seth worries his wife may be in over her head and reaches out to one of his contacts but doesn't get the response her expected. Cara is willing to take some risks to get the heat off herself and her student. Risks that could put her up close and personal with the killer.
Murder at the Waterfront is filled with secrets and lies, grieving families, and corrupt politicians. Ms. Rosman has precisely placed each twist, turn, and misdirection, setting a vigorous pace. When all was revealed, the mystery had deep roots. Cara was happy to let the professionals step in to "clean up the mess". Cara had guts! She deserves a sunny vacation, but with her curious nature, I don't think this is the last time she dives into a dangerous situation. Another Enjoyable Getaway from Jacque Rosman!

About Jacque Rosman
Jacque Rosman writes the Academic Mom Mystery series, featuring Cara Knight, a social work professor whose research instincts keep pulling her into investigations that are decidedly off-syllabus. When she's not plotting murders, Jacque can be found juggling her own version of the academic mom life.
