The space in the rooms, the detail, the wood, the hardware, the floorplans, the STAIRS, the fireplaces. Ugh a Craftsman is the perfect melding of practical and craftsmanship. They're works of art.

They are also often better built and survive better than other old houses (save Georgian). Italianates often have roof issues. Queen annes are horrible about balloon framing and structural issues.

A craftsman? There's a reason they stand for centuries. They're made out of old ass wood. They're built without balloon framing (most of the time). The walls are often stacked so that the weight of the upstairs walls (you'd be surprised how fucking much lathe and plaster can weigh, especially with old growth wood- which is denser than new growth) doesn't bow the ceilings. The ceiling struts are often wider than I am and like 3 inches thick (ours are), all old growth. They're built out of shit like oak and walnut, even in the studs. They last for a reason.
