Do we ever see how Maul puts together the other half of his second saberstaff? Because hear me out:
We know that Maul keeps the functioning half of his saberstaff that he was able to keep hold of in the Phantom Menace and that he's still using it by Shadow Lord as half of the full saber, with a newly constructed second hilt.
We also know Kyber is pretty hard to find, I imagine especially for someone on the run from both the Jedi and the Sith, and during the Clone Wars to boot. But there is a second piece of Kyber, perfect for a lightsaber focus, that made it into that pit with Maul at the same time.

What if Maul took that little piece of crystal that Obi-Wan had likely been bonded to since he was a child, bled it, and made it part of the lightsaber that killed his master. The heart of a padawan's saber, bound with a Jedi killer blade. Do you think Obi-Wan would still be able to feel it? Both of them bonded to the same crystal, an inextricable link between them, ever since they tried to kill each other. A gentle nagging in the back of each of their heads, Maul to be better, Obi-Wan to become worse.
