This is an idea that I had and honestly, the movie as is is really badly written which is not the fault of the actors (because they follow a script to some extend).

Apart from all the stupid drama regarding the movie, here is something that I think would have been far bettter. The following idea is very roughtly noted down, so don’t expect a readable story or so:

The for female actors were probably fine for the cast, so let’s have the actors in that idea be the same as in the actual movie.

Years passed, no supernatural activity occured after the Ghostbusters saved the world. Their HQ is empty and they quit due to some event in the past, as some rumors say.

The four women somehow find together because they experience (among other people) that there are activities and they try to find out why that is. Let’s have one of them being terrorized by a dark shadow in the past, etc. You know the actual, a tiny bit, expected plot here and there so I don’t need to explain much.

They find together due to being linked to events in the past and current events happening, and take the abandoned building, investigating, etc. One of them might have a mentor at university, which is Peter using another name to not be recognised. And at some point when ghostly actitivies grow stronger, things come together. They have first encounters and try to catch the ghosts, to revive the Ghostbusters as a team so to say. Peter reveals what has happened in the past when his past is discovered by the new crew - something went wrong and Egon passed away which is what lead to them quitting, however the old crew thought they have closed the opening to the underworld forever.

A new threat is rising though. Maybe it is “the boogyman”. It could be anything at this point. And soon they find out that one of the ghosts in their HQ is - Egon. He went to the building he remembered the most and tried to get in contact with the new team. Peter who is asked to help refuses to do so until he realizes that Egon is around.

When things finally go down, the remaining “old” Ghostbusters return to the stage as well and who knows what this new threat could have caused. This is entirely open and would need more thought. However, the mainvillain could be that dark shadow that swallows everything and is growing. After a first defeat the new crew experiences, maybe they reactivate a device that is linked to Egon’s death as it went wrong in the past, but there is no way to give up now. The old Ghostbusters pass on the torch to the new team after they successfully defeated the enemy, Egon sacrificing himself once again as he managed to solve the problem easier as a ghost.

The four women officially becoming the new Ghostbusters then return to the HQ, maybe they are about to think that it is over now and that their task is completed. When they just receive a call about... well, a ghost harassing people in a library. And in the epilogue, Egon could watch them and the old living members could offer a bit of help as well. Egon would be perfect as a character in ghostform in a sequel.

So, you get what I mean? I think there could have been way more to the writing. And just neutrally stated right now - I wish Leslie wouldn’t have had to act her character as a kinda (racist) negative stereotype. She doesn’t deserve that. (If she chose to do so I can respect that, however I think that this character-stereotype is not good for the product) Any too cliched stereotype is rather damaging when it is not properly executed in the writing. As an example: She could have started to be that stereotype in a situation when she becomes angry and people notice that she really tries her best to appear as a non stereotype, like, you know, improving oneself. But I am not sure about that, as mentioned, it has to be done carefully as the audience is kinda critical about these things.

In general if the movie wasn’t so badly written, only those people who are really just negative would be left complaining. All in all, due to what the producers do, all the hate and negativity coming from both sides, and neutrally observing the writing of the movie - I cannot support the product.

I just wish no one who doesn’t like it as well as the actors would receive any stupid harrassment over what they chose to do.

Those who do not like the movie won’t like it due to many reasons, there is nothing bad about that and insulting the audience is a bad move.

And so is insulting the actors (per example Leslie) in a kinda unjustified way, nor should she insult anyone as well. You know - I wish people would remain reasonable. And even those who really like the current product shouldn’t be harassed for liking it.

I agree with the criticism that it destroys a brand, it really does - the current product doesn’t help at all. I think that everyone deserves a better product and the female cast would have deserved a way better script to work with.

Sadly the damage is done and I feel sorry for the female cast as they deserved to work with a better script to not be linked to a bad result that is surely not their fault. I wish everything around the production and all the dodgy stuff happening wouldn’t have happened.

Oh well - let’s see how far the movie industry will fall in the near future.

I am from a time where there has been a proper “culture of debating”. I am 30 years old, well, 30 and a half, and I am used to debates where two different groups or more would properly, gently, state their opinions and really progress throughout the discussion. And in current times it seems that people mostly care for labels and are too emotionally linked to whatever they think is linked to them.

Maybe the good times might return some day.
