Hot take but alterhumanity could be some sort of mental disorder we don't know. Although if anything I would think it's more of a byproduct of one rather than a disorder itself, but the thing is no matter what it is it doesn't make anyone any less of an alterhuman it doesn't make you any less of what you really are, like my other post, it's ok if you have a source for your therianthropy(or any other alterhuman identity) it may not, and very rarely from what I've seen, be something that just.. I notice a majority of us are nuerodivergent so it could absolutely be some sort of byproduct of that, for example autism may make you feel less like a human because autism commonly makes you "different" from most people, but that doesnt mean its "fake" or something, it just means there's a source for it. I'm also aware not all of us are nd im just using that as an example as it applies to a majority of the community.
