things that DONT automatically make an alter a persecutor:
- having a flat tone
- not using tone indicators
- being mean once on accident
- being mean once on purpose
- doing something self destructive
- being sad/angry all the time
- telling someone off
- YOU THINKING THEY ARE A PERSECUTOR.
- YOU DISLIKING THAT ALTER.
dont sit there and tell someone their alter is a persecutor just because you dislike them or you are personally uncomfortable with them. it is up to a system to label their OWN alter that, not you.
Psychotic alter: Some alters have psychosis or psychotic symptoms. However, many symptoms which appear psychotic are not. For example, visual flashbacks may be mistaken for hallucinations, and strange body sensations (body memories) which are physical flashbacks of past trauma can be mistaken for tactile hallucinations. Hearing "voices" is a common experience in people with DID/OSDD, the "voices" are alters trying to talk, and occasionally may come from outside the person's head rather than inside, which is more common. "Thought snatching" (taking away your thoughts) can be caused by the actions of alters. Beliefs caused by trauma can be mistaken for paranoia, for example a person may be told that a "bug" has been implanted by abusers to record any disclosures they make. Working through the memory of the trauma will resolve the paranoia that it caused.
Non-Introject/"Brainmade"/Aseity alter flag to go along with these
The colors are mostly based off of this flag. Teal is used because it's the opposite of the color I used for source on the introject, it also represents that some aseitys may still feels like they came from somewhere even without a direct source. The light purple is for memory, this was added to combat the idea that only introject have memories that did not happen to the body.
these were made just by overlaying the introject flags on the non-introject flag, and then shifting the colors around so they looked better.
*Partial Factive/Fictive can also refer to an alter that has both factional and fictional sources, or an alter that has many sources and one primary one. However these flags are just partial factives/fictives that are partial do to being partially non-introjects.
So, I was recently speaking with some system friends of mine when they mentioned they wished there was some sort of alter role/type masterlist they could reference whenever they were unsure of the nature of a certain alter.
So, I thought, why not make one!
I've categorized the roles and types into ways that made sense to me based on trends I saw in them, but this is in no way, shape, or form considered "official" categorization.
See the full masterlist/guide below the cut!

Negotiators: an alter whose primary role is to mediate between two parties (in or out of the system) on behalf of the system or on behalf of an alter, seeking the best outcome. They often have great communication skills and boundaries or are able to be brutally honest when others can not.
The hot pink slash represents being direct and firm in boundaries.
The light pink represents the opposition's stance or issue.
the peach represents approaching the discussion with compassion and listening, as oftentimes as a mediator, the two parties might not be emotionally available to do so for one another.
the light blue represents neutrality, the ability to be logical.
the dark green represents standing up for the system/alter. It is firm and solid much like the negotiator has to be for others.
the handshake/purple represents the common ground, the solution, and the best outcome.
the & symbol represents systems as a whole, with the system pride flag inside.
A type of persecutor that keeps the body awake due to their own distress/upset, or restlessness. Like a lot of persecutors they believe they're protecting the system from something that is heightened while the body is asleep or while they themselves are asleep and they believe it's affecting the whole system.
Throughout life people attach labels to us and those labels affect how we think about ourselves and each other. We regularly apply labels to people we barely know or have never even met. Thatβs a problem when those labels are based on stereotypes or unfounded assumptions, or opinions presented as facts.Β
And thatβs what most βalter typesβ lists are, soβ¦Β yeah, no thanks fam.Β Itβs also how my therapist explained DID to my kid parts :D
On the other hand, labels defined in treatment guides and workbooks, by professionals in the field of dissociative disorders, totes fine. Iβm on board with most of what Iβve read and like discussing their merits and flaws.Β
