A forest of fabric stangs, waiting to become altar sized appliqué tapestries yay. What on earth is a Stang you ask and why are witches so obsessed with them. A Stang is a two or more pronged staff, and as I understand it, it represents the crossroads, where there are paths that come from 4 directions, as well as above and below, this makes the Stang a modern altar, or ritual space. It is also a magical tool that can be easily taken with you as you walk down hedge lined lanes, forests and other magical places. It can then be propped or stuck into the ground to form a temporary altar or focus where you can hang objects that you need for your ritual or magical working. It can also be used to move branches aside, or battle with large hairy beasts.. or guide the odd stay cow found in hedgerow lanes. It also represents the world tree, above, middle and below. the three realms. And finally, it can be used as an anchor for traveling the spirit world. . In fabric form such as I am making these can be used to connect your altar spaces to the wild paces of hedge, and lane, forest and field. They can be used as a door way where you can invite the energies of the crossroads, spirit roads, and those magical in-between places. .
