Riku Oshima is a Japanese producer/rapper who creates a floating, ethereal sound by collaging elements from various genres, from 70s AOR and 80s disco classics to 2000s R&B.

He's also gaining attention for his collaborations with popular artists like Qugo, RICK NOVA, and QN (ex. SIMI LAB). His music evokes a sense of nostalgia, yet defies easy categorization within existing genres like "Lo-Fi," "Chillwave," and "City Pop." Having released a track almost monthly at one point, consistently producing high-quality music, he released a new two-track single, "I Wanna be Your Man," on March 8th, 2023. This new release also showcases Oshima's signature "mysterious" sound. So, how is his groove created? In this interview, we discuss everything from his roots and songwriting methods to the origins of his new tracks.
