spent a bit going through Spoiler Victim's twitter - i mean i didn't go through the entire thing but it does seem like this response is a bit of an outlier in terms of batshit, so i'm personally inclined to think the person just had a really bad day and it manifested in doubling (tripling, quadrupling, holy god so many replies) down of the spoiler weirdness.
which, is normal. and fine. this is what i mean, seriously, when i say i miss this kind of drama. people just being regular people and occasionally getting hung up on something and accidentally letting that color our interactions with public, shared spaces. maybe SV will come back to it later and be embarrassed, or maybe not. And people are obviously right in pushing back against it. But one thing is clear to me - this person isn't a Regular.
not someone making their entire existence about <insert drama here> and consistently finding a reason to be mad about it.
more of Spoiler Victim, pls.
iām already filing for adoption for all the new druck kids iām ready!!

I was thinking about hogwarts james & I think one thing thats important is that heās a character of extremes? Like, he really seeās things in black & white. slytherins are evil - gryffindors are good & therefore any action taken by him (or a gryffindor) against a slyth is morally justifiable
to me his like, the epitome of a gryffindor but in both the positive and negative ways. & lots of his traits / the house traits manifest in really extreme ways. Like, heās protective of his friends & a good friend, but heās also overly protective in general with a hero complex. chivalrous in a way that leads to stepping in where heās unwanted & unneeded, & creating situations like the lake scene for his own ego / self-importance.Ā
gryffindors consider themselves to be the morally upright & just house but that can lead to self-righteousness & lack of perspective. I also think, James comes from a very privilegedĀ background & does not necessarily think about the very real consequences some of the things happening in hogwarts has for people, until he gets older andĀ ādeflates his head a bitā as sirius says. growing up in the middle of a war, seeing how it affects real people, and realising that the entire hogwarts house rivalries / wizard rivalries is kinda dumb is a big part of his character development.
Not only that, but itās not like heās a totally horrible person like some people perceive him to be. and it bothers me when people come @ me with that because itās just ... not ? it ? itās not even canon.Ā His negative traits also have positive sides - like heās willing to befriend and defend people no matter the consequences and the backlash that might have. heās loyal to a fault (its literally his ultimate downfall), he staunchly throws himself behind the causes he believes in, heās moral righteousnessĀ isnāt exclusive to his friendsĀ (he saves snapes life for eg)Ā AND, itās canon he stops being such a dickhead in his final two years (except with snape but its not like heās a saint). The point is, the things that make him dislikable, are also the things like make him likeable, depending on the context.Ā
anyway tldr: james potter displays many of theĀ ātypicalā gryffindor traits and they equally manifest in both positive and negative ways because he is a character of extremes.Ā
