The constellations of Orion, the Hunter, and Taurus, the Bull // Tryggve Dyrvik
Click below for an annotated image (that I painstakingly drew myself) and some etymology for the brightest stars in this image!
Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka !
Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka are the bright bluish stars from east to west (upper right to lower left) along the diagonal in this cosmic vista. Otherwise known as the Belt of Orion, these three blue supergiant stars are hotter and much more massive than the Sun.
They lie from 700 to 2,000 light-years away, born of Orion's well-studied interstellar clouds. In fact, clouds of gas and dust adrift in this region have some surprisingly familiar shapes, including the dark Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula near Alnitak at the upper right.
The famous Orion Nebula itself is off the right edge of this colorful starfield. The telescopic frame spans almost 4 degrees on the sky.

The Stars of Orion
Had fun making them! Also mintaka my beloved, requested by a friend!
Hear no evil. Speak no evil. See no evil.
Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka!
They're the Descendants in the Isle of Dawn. Three friends that appear to be young men that are the self-proclaimed welcome committee of the isle. They all look up to Betelgeuse highly as a senior.
They are named after the three stars in the Orion Belt, and are themed after the three wise monkeys. Also, all of them are fluent in sign language!
(More about them under the cut!)

Little is known about the planet Osalt Tanago. It revolves around Wetuh Win, a star in the constellation of Orion, 1,200 light-years away. (On Earth we call the star Alnilam.)
Wetuh Win/Alnilam is a blue supergiant star 400,000 more luminous as our Sun, and 40 times larger.
A small group of its people were discovered on the planet Mars. They had been enslaved by different and hostile alien race brought to the Red Planet to mine for a mineral found there. One of the slaves escape, and when the hostile aliens completed their mining operation, they killed the remaining slaves.
The people of Osalt Tanago are capable of surviving on the Martian planet without protective outer gear. They periodically consumed pills which oxygenated their blood.
A human astronaut found the escaped alien (dubbing him Friday). They were hunted by the hostile aliens, and traveled to Mars’ northern icecap, where their equipment intercepted a signal from an Earth rescue ship.
