Almost Perfect (one shot)
Twilight
Caius x Reader
Summary: Everything about you is perfect...almost.
Rating: M-mentions of smut
____
Almost perfect…
That was what Caius described you as, in his mind. He adored nearly everything about you. The only downside was your humanity. That’s what made you almost perfect.
Never in a million years did Caius think that he would fall in love with a human. Love itself was a foreign feeling. Caius, himself, called love a weakness. Love was a stupid, silly idea to woo silly little girls…then you showed up and delightfully ruined everything!
You showed up and smacked him upside the head with a feeling he’d never experienced. At first, he was terrified. You were everything that he was not. You were sweet, funny, and all around a good person. There were a lot more words Caius could use to describe you, but he always ended up in the middle of left field, wondering how the hell he had gotten there.
You didn’t mind his emotional instability or how his temper would fly off of the handle. In fact, you could calm him down with only a simple little smile. You could even put a smile on his face. That in itself was a feat that hardly anyone else could accomplish.
Everything was perfect…until it wasn’t. It was a normal Thursday when you woke up with a headache. When you didn’t come down to harass Caius over whatever small subject, he knew something was off.
“Y/n?”
Caius stepped into your shared room with a frown on his face. You lay buried under a bunch of blankets.
“Under here. I think my head is going to explode.”
You whined. Caius frowned again before moving to sit down beside you on the bed. He carefully went through each layer of the blanket until he found you.
“This isn’t normal.”
He commented as your paler than normal face came into his view. You shook your head, pushing your face against his thigh. The light of the room was too much. You were thankful for his dark clothing, being able to drown all of that messy sunlight out.
“No. I feel like my head is going to explode.”
“You rarely get sick.”
Caius said, his frown intensifying. This was his worry. You becoming ill, and he wouldn’t have the slightest idea what to do.
Other than change her…
That had been the subject for some time. You had agreed to it, but no date was set. In fact, you agreed to it early in the relationship. That was one of Caius’ specific terms before he ever agreed to entertain the idea of being with a human.
“Yeah, well, I’m pretty sure I’m dying.”
You murmured. Caius shook his head.
“I’ll send Heidi to find something to make this stop. I would hope if you were dying, I would have figured it out by now.”
Caius replied, stroking his hand through your hair. His cold skin felt very nice on your throbbing head.
“Can you leave your hand there? The cold feels nice.”
“If that’s what you want, darling.”
Over the coming weeks, the migraines continued. They seemed to be coming more frequently and more severely than the last.
“I think it’s time you see a doctor. Heidi can take you.”
Caius finally said after what had to be headache 25.
“Maybe you’re right.”
You replied, sick of feeling like death. Caius was surprised you agreed so easily. Normally, you had an aversion to even considering seeing a doctor. A few bad experiences in your life have left you with a fear of doctors.
“That’s the easiest you have ever agreed to anything. We can get this figured out and get you out of misery.”
You turned back to Caius with a smirk.
“Or you could just change me, and we can skip the doctor altogether”
Caius gently kissed your forehead.
“I’ll change you soon enough.”
He replied. Caius planned to. He was simply enjoying your last little bit of humanity. As much as Caius looked forward to no longer having to be so careful with you, he would miss certain details. He would miss your beautiful eyes. He would miss the way your cheeks would flush when he said something off the cuff or when the two of you made love. Caius would miss seeing those cute pink cheeks and tears streaming down your eyes as you were overstimulated, unable to moan his name.
“I can accept that.”
You replied, moving to kiss his cheek before getting up.
“I’ll be back soon.”
An hour later you sat in the doctor’s office feeling like a glorified pincushion. You had been poked, prodded, and scanned so many times that you lost count.
Sitting in the cold room, you were glad when Heidi stepped in. She had left the moment the nurse came to draw blood. You didn’t blame her either.
“I’m sorry. I would have stayed but…”
You smiled and squeezed Heidi’s hand.
“You don’t have to explain. I understand, Heidi.”
She relaxed beside you. The last thing that she wanted was to have to explain to Caius why she had bitten you.
“Hopefully they can figure out what’s causing these headaches.”
You said, nervously. Heidi only nodded. She knew if it was anything bad, Caius would simply change you. If it was something not so terminal, you could get medicine and feel better.
The moment the doctor stepped in, you knew something was wrong. The expression on your face told you everything that you needed to know. He sat down and stared at you for a moment before speaking.
“I got the results of your test back. I’m sorry to be so blunt but you have a brain tumor. That is the cause of your headaches….”
After that, the words seemed to blur together, and you couldn’t even comprehend the rest. Had it not been for Heidi squeezing your hand, you may have even forgotten why you were in the room.
“How long does she have?”
Heidi’s voice pulled you from your trance. The doctor appeared thoughtful again.
“With treatment, maybe a year. Without…a few months. The migraines will get worse and more frequent.”
Heidi managed a small “oh” before going back to squeezing your hand.
After leaving the doctor, you turned to Heidi.
“I don’t want to just dump this news on everyone. I’m still taking it in…they will figure it out soon enough.”
“Caius will ask.”
You only nodded. While you knew you had the option of being changed, knowing your mortal life was coming to an end so rapidly and suddenly was still a lot to take in.
“I know.”
You murmured, as if on autopilot.
The moment you stepped into the throne room, Caius was on his feet. He frowned, seeing that look on your face.
“Well?”
He questioned. You stared at him for a moment before turning and leaving the room. At the moment, you didn’t think that you could even get the words out.
“Are you going to tell me or do I need to start guessing?”
You turned to see Caius walk in the door. Without even meeting his eyes, you knew that he was annoyed.
“It’s not good.”
Caius stood motionless for a moment as he took in your words. He quickly moved to stand beside you.
“Just tell me, Y/n.”
“I have a brain tumor. He said I only have a few months to live…if I don’t do the treatment.”
Caius quickly reached out, pulling your body against his. The anger started to build yet again. He should have gone with you. Granted, Caius would have probably killed the doctor for making you panic like this (even if it really wasn’t the poor man’s fault).
“I’m changing you. You don’t get to come into my life and just check out. Everything will be fine, darling. You know I won’t let anything happen to you.”
You nodded, sniffing against Caius’ shoulder.
“I know. I wasn’t expecting that news. It was just a shock.”
Caius gently leaned your body back in his arms.
“I’m sure. I’m sorry that you had to find out like that. Do you believe me when I say that you’ll be fine?”
You nodded.
“Please don’t go kill the doctor. He did what he was supposed to.”
Caius chuckled before leaning down to kiss you.
“You know me so well. I’ll leave the human alone. You’ve always been almost perfect. Now you’ll be completely perfect.”
