Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Rating: Teen (occasional language) Ship: Alphonse x Mei, Ed x Winry (side pairing) Status: Oneshot Tags: Worldbuilding, but for alkahestry, pining, Al’s a little slow, and a lot oblivious, letters, western vs eastern philosophies, individualism vs collectivism, traditional Chinese views, period appropriate imo, this kind of turned into a love letter to being chinese lol AO3
How’s the miniature brat? -Ed Taller. -Al Two years after everything that’s happened, Al travels to Xing to study alkahestry. What follows is a series of epiphanies.

Miraculous Ladybug/Fullmetal Alchemist crossover AU:
Modern-ish setting (probably)
Ed and Al as celebrity teen alchemists (Ed moreso than Al)
They have a larger age gap than in canon-- Al is thirteen or fourteen, and Ed's in his early twenties (and is Al's legal guardian).
Ed tries to resurrect their mom on his own. (I suspect he loses more than just his leg in the process.)
He becomes a recluse who never leaves the house (and is also super over-protective of Al).
He wants to fix himself, and he also hasn't given up on bringing back Trisha.
While researching, Ed is approached by a mysterious figure who refers to himself only as "Father."
'Father' tells him about the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses, which can grant any wish, and gives him the Butterfly Miraculous (which allows him to give ordinary people the superhuman abilities of homunculi).
Elsewhere, a wandering Guardian named Hohenheim (who's been hiding in hiding to make sure 'Father' couldn't get his hands on the miraculous or target his kids (whoops)) senses the activation of the Butterfly Miraculous and knows what he needs to do.
He gives the Ladybug Miraculous (which boosts the power of the purification arts) to a young Asian immigrant named May, who's been struggling to get used to her new home (and with the fact that alchemy, which was always her best subject, is now one of her worst, because western alchemy is totally different from the eastern alchemy she's used to). (She also has a big fat celebrity crush on Ed.)
Against his better instincts, Hohenheim surreptitiously slips the Black Cat Miraculous (which boosts traditional/western alchemy) to his younger son. (He really doesn't want to get his kids involved, but objectively speaking, they are some of the most talented young alchemists on the continent, and Ed's reclusiveness makes him a poor fit.)
