fear and curiosity of unknowns
Eve knew very well that history was written by the victors (although she knew not where her unshakable conviction in that statement came from), but the written word was as good a method as any through which to learn details of the place in which she was condemned to reside. The less she understood, the harder it would be to exist, the harder it would be to escape.
She had heard that Amaranth University had an extensive public library, so that was where she had decided to go. It was full of people of many different kinds, but most of them appeared rather common, which was fine. She wasn’t here to people-watch, she was here to read.
As she perused the shelves, she came awfully close to one person who was, for lack of a better word, stand-out, in a similar, yet different way to herself. And more importantly, the life signal read very clearly as an unknown. Similar to human, but not human. And between his sage-like experience and that, she simply must sate her curiosity.
“Pardon my intrusion; this is not a space for conversation, so if you wish, I will leave you alone at once.” She was careful to be polite with her words, as, while she offered to leave if so-desired, her desire was to ask a few questions of this strange man. “But...are you a local of this area? Your appearance is quite unusual compared to many of the others I have seen, in a manner I believe is similar to my own. Did you perhaps come here from a far-away land as well?”
