OrignInal alien race time!!
I GOT MORE!!!!!!!!!! So during my vacation, I had a lot of time to edit and draw more things for my beautiful weird ass aliens!!! So I am making a new post with all the old information edited and some new stuff, including: reproduction, more cultural things, a more in depth Look at how they interact with other species in the 40k universe!!
My jabberwocky alienâs
Culture
They are very nomadic and naturalized to different environments quickly. So culturally, they are extremely varied and diverse culture with many different languages and religions. they would have localized names if they've been on a certain planet or moon for long enough! Once they have someplace they like they tend to stick around
Things they may have kept from their original culture from their home planet!!!
Ancestor worship or worship of the âThe Many Deadâ
A preference for a hunter gatherer society over farming.
Extreme cultural significance in sewing reading and other textile crafts.
Big bodyâs of Water are EVIL.
Children are the future *mandalorian theme starts playing*
Weapons: spears, bolo, nets/throwing net, rope dart, meteor hammer.
Common clothing stylesÂ
Since the jabberwockys fur is essentially their ears covering it up by significant amounts would be counter productive they tend to wear braided or cording garments stuff that has a lot of holes. Neck decorations are very popular as well as headdresses arm bands, and tail bands. Their tentacles are also decorated but it is less common. For good references check out Arabian horse tack and sight hound collars.
Space travel
They don't have their own technology instead borrowing from other species. Because of their brains elasticity when it comes to learning new things, they can figure out most alien technology if given time, and if the technology interfaces well with their senses! Their homeworld didn't have advanced technology So they were basically picked up and then spread around by accident by other spacefaring species! NOW YOU CANT GET RID OF THEM.
Strength in comparison to others and how they deal with conflicts.
if they ever did get into a conflict with anybody, it's basically the emu war of 1932. The Jabberwocky aliens are the emus.
Necrons
AAAAAAAAaAaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!?!?!?!?!? >8U
They donât really remember the war in heaven, but it was bad enough that they have a natural hate for them.
Orks
You smell Good. I WILL EAT U NOW.
Perhaps this is how the Jabberwocky got the fungus to begin with, but now they view orks as the most DELICIOUS FOOD. And will actively hurt them to eat. Some Jabberwocky cultures have breed animals to sniff out still developing Orks in the ground to dig up to harvest (like truffles) Orks are the only sentient species the Jabberwocky will eat voluntarily when not in starving conditions.
Aeldari (Eldar)
Crocodiles and capybaras.Â
Drukhari(Dark Eldar)
KILL. NO TALK. SEE ONE KILL ONE. Much like humpback whales who will save random things that a killer whale is trying to eat, Jabberwockyâs will go out of their way to rescuers living things from dark eldar and kill the dark Eldar. Their hatred of this faction is brighter than a star. And deeper than the warp.
Chaos
Because of their low warp content the Jabberwockyâs donât get corrupted by it often, but it dose happen ever now and then. The fungus acts like an immune system when this happens and will try to fight the corruption and sometimes even wins, mitigating, or even reversing much of the damage done by the corruption. The Jabberwocky view those who fall to Chaos like plague victims, it is not spiritual it is a disease like radiation poisoning.
The imperium of man
The Imperium views the jabberwockys like most Xenos, It needs to die. Despite this jabberwockys get along with humans very well! Their social structures are very similar, and when working together they can achieve a great deal! Many a human society was exterminated because of their tight knit relationship with a local jabberwocky population. (One forgotten Primark though⌠took them under their wing and cared and loved them as beloved companions.)
Unfortunately for The imperium of man they cannot ever get rid of these bastards. They are raccoons. They live everywhere and they will get inside of your attic and multiply. You will find Jabberwocky in hive, worlds any worlds with tall cities or massive tall forests, happily living, and multiplying not caring that the imperial wishes for their extinction.
Rough traders LOVE jabberwocky and they love rough traders in return. Their willingness to cooperate, dexterity of mind, and sheer physical strength makes them an invaluable asset to a rogue traders. If there is a population of Jabberwocky on a planet that rogue trader has found they snap them up into their crew or cultivate a safe Haven for them if possible.
The mechanics wish that the Jabberwocky would cease to exist. The tendency for our large sentient noodles friends to just take technology under the pretense of borrowing it drives the mechanics insane. Theyâre really big Jawas!
Leagues of Votann
Would you like to trade stuff? No? Ok we will borrow it for a bit . (Jawa protocol activated)
they like the dwarfs. The dwarfs not so much! The jabberwockys really like the Votann and their stuff and will try to make friends with them! sometimes this works, sometimes not. They tend to have more success with the nomadic clan. The votann usually view the Jabberwocky as extremely large pests.
Tâau Empire
For the greeter good? Ok!
Because of their great  size and strength they are almost always in the fire cast. The jabberwockys could fit in to other cast and Excel but they are to valuable on the field of battle to put them anywhere else. The jabberwockys fit in with the tâau just as well as human do, the structure and clear direction of the the empire works for many of them. But some jabber are not fond of the lack of choice and the inability to leave if the greeter good no longer is good in their opinion.
Tyranids/Genestealer
with tyranids jabberwockys are a lot like orks. They can't get tricked by genestealers because of there tendrils! They can smell it on them recognizing the cancer that is the genestealer infection. They will kill the affected people and then fucking book it for the Hills.  they'll find the closest space station, stowaway on the nearest ship, and then stuff themselves into the vents a nd get the hell out of Dodge. If a conflict is inevitable, they fight like caged raccoons. Their ultimate goal is to get away not to win.
Biology
The jabberwockys are diurnal, preferring hunting and existing in daylight hours with plenty of light. They have three sets of eyes , the big set with the X pupils and two sets of compound eyes , one set on the back of the head and the other on the underside of their chin , and the holes beside their eyes are nostrils! Their compound eyes are very good at catching movement; they can also see a much wider light spectrum, including harmful radiation, but they canât see detail very well. Theyâre large forward facing non-compound eyes are very powerful, being able to focus and see highly detailed objects from very far away very well in motion without difficulty.Â
Their nostrils are not for smelling, the tendrils on their head does the smelling!
They're not very good at smelling things in the air. Their ability to sense smells within the air is about as strong as ours, but they're ability to find trace smells on objects and surfaces is stellar; they can even tell who is related to them, from scent alone! It is very common for individuals who have never met each other to do a gentle head bump and allow their tendrils to intertwine to introduce one another, similarly to dogs and cat sniffing and touching noses. This can be rather disturbing for individuals who do not share the same anatomy!
They're covered in soft hairs that can sense electrical fields and vibrations, so their whole body is an ear. The follicles are very long, hollow and made up of thousands of tiny filaments much like a owlâs feathers Their fur color varies greatly, when they first grow hair jabberwocky are a eggshell white, changing to their adult colors as they age depending upon the natural biome that they grew up in, though they tend to get darker in color as they age some of the oldest individuals of their species are pitch black. The color is not a pigment, in stead the filament of the each strands has up to 20 layers. As light hits the top layer it refracts. Some of it gets reflected, and some passes through to the layers below!
Because of the input that the fur gives the jabberwocky, they are extremely fastidious in keeping themselves clean using specialized skin inside their lip to clean even the smallest particles from their fur. Their lips are very dexterous; much like a horseâs it is capable of moving and gripping things like an extra hand.
The jabberwockys have no bones! Their skeletal structure is more like a sharks; it's made out of a sort of cartilage. when they die, most everything just rots away, all that's left usually is the teeth and the hook claws on their arms and legs.Â
The claws on their arms and legs are curved hooks meant for gripping and hooking onto trees and other surfaces to aid in climbing; because of this, they can be used with devastating effect against their enemies, slicing through most armors. The finger pads of the smaller set of arms and hind legs are covered in soft incredibly fine hairs that are in a hook like shape, which allow the Jabberwocky aliens to climb on smooth surfaces much as spiders do. Each of their secondary arms have two hook-like claws protruding from the tip.
Their teeth are black and shiny like obsidian. They are meant to puncture and slice, each individual tooth is attached in the mouth similar to a snakeâs fang, with a muscle to allow them to flex and stretch for gripping and pulling food into the gullet. They shed these every 10 years and grow a new set. Their gums are black , turning sort of blue down the throat
The jabberwockyâs natural biome was very forested: think temperate rainforest! So climbing, leaping, swinging and general running around in vertical spaces. Tall dense forest cityscapes and hive cities are excellent environments for them. Imagine combining Spider-Man with a jaguar and thatâs basically how these guys move and hunt.  They can run pretty well on the ground, but they weren't designed for long flat surfaces; itâs like watching a giraffe run, but the legs in the back are much shorter! When running on their shorter arms itâs very similar to a weasel or ferret; quick loping strides with a curved spine.
They have an intense natural fear of water!! It's nearly hydrophobia, they can swim, but they will freak the fuck out If you try to put them in water unless it's life or death. And even then, once they hit the water, their frontal brain just shuts off and itâs pure fear. This is most likely a genetic fear left over from their home planet.
They also have a symbiotic relationship with a fungus. This fungus acts like a rebreather; It's how they manage to spread so far, and to so many different atmospheres. It lives in their fur, lungs, digestive system and stomach and makes it so that they can adapt to most atmospheres and breathe it naturally.Â
They're omnivorous and the fungus helps there too. It lives in the gut and helps them digest food that is not something theyâve evolved to digest and gain energy from. Their digestive system is extremely efficient, capable of digesting most organic matter. The intestines are efficient enough that they do not urinate instead only passing solid waste matter.
They do not have those individuals who are cut off from the warp such as blanks but, the fungus that they are symbiotic with Sometimes has it equivalent of pariah gene. Psychers are also rather rare amongst their ranks (even rarer than they are amongst humans) their minds are very stable and magic is difficult to wake in them.
4 primary lungs in the chest with 17 Proto lungs, 8 along the neck and three along their thigh. Because of the size of their body and the speed at which they can move they need to get a massive amount of air!Â
4 Hearts got to keep that blood pumping! Not to mention if one fails or becomes damaged, it can be removed in a new will grow in its place. The other three will handle the strain as one is regrowing.
The 2 secondary brains in the chest are to help with reaction time when they hear something or an electrical impulse hits at a lower section of their body. If the brain in the head is destroyed , it can grow back eventually , but any information that was stored in that organ is gone basically forever. Their DNA is extremely durable and capable of reactivating to regenerate limbs or organs. on their home world They were very susceptible to parasites, and one of the only ways to remove them was to simply cut the affected flash away. This doesnât mean that they can take damage with impunity. They still suffer from shock and if enough damage is done, they will die. If damage repeatedly, forcing them to regrow the same limb or organ over and over, they become highly susceptible to cancer, and the horrors that that would entail for such a species.
When hunting or fighting one of these guys it is very important to get rid of the two lower brains first before chopping the head off, which is one of the most reliable ways to kill them. If you do not kill the two lower brains before chopping the head off, the whole body goes into a spasmodic flailing. Imagine an earthworm when you touch it when itâs in a puddle, frantic and uncoordinated wiggling with all of its strength, dangerous if you think of it on the scale of a giraffe. Eventually this fling will cease, and the shock kills the lower brains, it will stop, but the damage is done. Itâs quite possible this reaction is happens because sometimes the lower brains do not die of shock and the individual survives and continues to pass on this genetic reaction to its offspring.Â
They don't need to move their mouths to talk, Most of the noise they make comes from the neck holes on the sides of their neck or from their chest. So if they're moving their lips, it's because they were raised or live close by to humans or other species of sentient people who use mouths for communication!
They're really good mimics! It takes the awhile , but they can sound pretty damn human! they have very soft buzzy voices, With an bug droning quality. When they're happier or content , they make a sound similar to a cicada. When not mimicking, they sound very similar to a pipe organ with an underlaying buzz as they grow larger and older the sound becomes much deeper and powerful.
BLOOD IS BLUE like true blue cerulean when dry it darkens to an indigo. The meat of the jabberwockys is an almost purple in color and the internal organs range from purple to a dull blue. The cartilage structure that serves as their skeleton is usually clear.
they keep on growing As they age and donât stop, But when they hit adulthood that growth slows down to a crawl. When they hit physical adulthood (55 years old ) they're about as big as a giraffe so around 18 feet in height.  Like a lobster they could probably just keep on living if they donât get killed.
They can fit into any hole as long as they can get their head through! This does become difficult if the jabberwocky is caring eggs or has too much fat to compress. and if you do run into a fat Jabberwocky never underestimate them they may be much slower than their slimmer counterparts, but they have enough strength to rip the spine out of a ork war boss without breaking a sweat. (yes I was inspired by the gourmand from rain world.) itâs kind of like fighting a giant hippopotamus on heroin with the intelligence of a human and the ability to climb.
Reproduction
They are hermaphrodites each individual has both male and female sexual reproductive organs. But Like all organic life there is mutations so there are sometimes mono sex individuals.
Their tongue, sole purpose is as secondary sexual organ meant to retrieve and store eggs and sperm. The eggs and sperm are collected from the primary genitals, and then the tongue transfers them to the appropriate tube that is located at the back of the throat. inside of these tubes a chemical reaction occurs eggs and sperm form into packets that are easy to transfer to other individuals. This chemical reaction also prevents the egg and sperm from fertilizing inside of the storage tubes. If the tubes are not damaged eggs/sperm can be kept viable for decades. In the most diary circumstances, they can actually self inseminate and clone themselves if no other individuals are nearby and available, and there are no more eggs or sperm in their storage.
they lay eggs AND They can do live birth , that's only occurs if they hold the eggs in, but that is not preferred. They may choose to carry the eggs internally instead of laying if their group is mid immigration or bad conditions, like a natural disaster or war. Eventually, the larva will hatch internally and be delivered within 24 hours. Jabberwocky aliens have an average of 4 to 6 eggs with every pregnancy.
Mammeries go in 2 rows of 4 along the belly. Lactation usually stops after about a week of no stimulation of the memories. About a month after lactation ends, the breasts will reduce back to their original size.
After hatching, the newborn larva are helpless and simply cling to their parents back or belly completely relying upon them for their survival. Over the course of 10 years they will develop all of their limbs and will remain with their parents for the first 25 to 30 years of their lives.
Home planet
their planet has been gone a long time! Their sun went supernova during the war in heaven. The whole solar system is dead.
The planet was on a tilted axis as it orbited its home star. It was a water world with no land masses above sea level. The âlandâ floating islands made up of trees and other vegetation the trees get biiiiiig like fucking HUGE like mountain big. Seasonal storms and wind currents would cause these floating islands to travel across the surface of the water, creating seasons and changing climate for all lifeforms living onset Islands.
The only fresh water to be found is through plants and rain. The tree filters out the salt in the water as it rises through the trunk. Some plants will gather water from rain and store it in roots or tubers while others are parasitic and will steal water and nutrients from their host trees. Water efficiency is key to survival in this environment.
Nursery trees are fallen trees that have floated out into the wide ocean becoming miniature islands of their own. If conditions are right they will become full floating islands.
FloraÂ
So many
Fauna
PredatorsÂ
Big water predators that Iâm calling the jub jub nymph. It  can shoot high pressure water at pray to knock it down to grab and eat It. these are the one if not the BIGIST reason the jabberwockys are so afraid of water. Jub jub nymph will eventually metamorphosis in to itâs adult form the jub jub bird a flying predator big enough to easily fly away with a jabberwocky in its claws . The jabberwockys are not safe even in the thick foliage ether... quite and so very patient is the bandersnutch a massive tigers like predator that will hunt and eat the jabberwockys.
Big pray animalsÂ
inspo: Whales, elephant.
Mid pray
inspo: goat, sheep, fox, deer, ostrich, pig, turkey.
Little prayÂ
inspo: Rabbit, sqwerl, snake, ground hog, pheasant, chicken.
The fungusÂ
The fungus is not something the jabberwocky evolved  with it is not native to there home world, it was picked up once they had left. Much like humans and the mitochondria, the fungus was picked up and made part of the jabberwocky body, now both are completely intertwined. It acts as rebreather, supplementary to digestion, and even as an extra immune system.
