i feel like i might be getting into some controversial territory here

1. the wire drop in the first movie.

literally heartstopping to watch. character defining. franchise defining. nobody has ever done it better. listening to The Eye of the Duck episode made me feel literally queasy (positive)

2. the burj khalifa

this is really joint first, because it feels like the stunt that defined mcquarries tenure to me, but christ is this one anxiety inducing and the logistics were a nightmare

3. the underwater vault scene from rogue nation

it doesn't feel like the most anxiety-inducing stunt but i'm pretty sure this is the closest cruise got to actual death while filming

4. the helicopter sequence from fallout

this feels like cheating, since its actually three stunts in one, but how can you pick? if i absolutely had to, though, it would be the corkscrew dive, a stunt so dangerous most helicopter pilots wouldn't attempt it

5. the motorcycle jump from dead reckoning

have you seen the behind-the-scenes video of pegg's nervous, hysterical laughter? yeah. but also this is here because that jump felt like it had extra narrative weight, as a moment in which Ethan has to trust Benji in a movie about how he can't trust anyone or anything.

11. do you listen to music when writing?

so when i’m Extremely plugged into the writing mainframe i listen to a lot of soundtracks (currently OBSESSED with the score to everybody’s gone to the rapture!) because i find that stuff with words distracts me. but when i hit the home straight i let loose a little and listen to some actual songs - usually something extremely emotional by that point lmao. 

21. least favorite character to write?

here’s my take on this…when i don’t like a character they ain’t making the cut. it’s faves only in my fics. i’m like thanos, just erasing characters all over the shop. 

46. share a scene of a story that you haven’t published yet!

i have a NICE GUYS fic i never finished so here’s two middle-aged men having a moment: 

“Holland,” he says, breathless. “Jesus, you’re drunk. We’renot doing this when you’re drunk.”

“Jack,” Holland says, and paws at him uselessly. “Jack, Jack.I’m always drunk.”

That’s enough to break Jackson outof the reverie, and he laughs. Holland looks at him, bleary-eyed andbeautiful, and in that moment, narrowed down to the slightest pointof a half-second, a blink and you’ll miss it instant, everythingfalls into place. Nothing has changed. The streetlamp is stillcasting its orange glow through the window, and the clock still tickson the wall. Jackson runs his hand along the two-day stubble atHolland’s jaw and watches his eyes drift shut. Everything haschanged.

“Oh my god,” says Holland,opening his eyes slowly – and he gets it too, Jackson sees it inhis eyes. “Oh, I think I love you.”

“You think?”

“Yeah,” Holland says. “I thinkI might have done for a long time.” Jackson laughs again, andHolland frowns. “Hey,” he says, affronted.
