🔐 Algorand Plans Quantum-Resistant Upgrade by 2027
Algorand has introduced a roadmap for transitioning toward quantum-resistant cryptography by 2027.
The network has been preparing for this shift since 2022, when it introduced State Proofs based on the Falcon signature scheme. The next phase includes native Falcon-1024 accounts and hybrid security models that combine existing elliptic-curve cryptography with quantum-safe methods.
Key roadmap elements include:
• Falcon-1024 accounts • hybrid cryptographic accounts • support for AlgoKit, SDKs, and Pera wallet • evaluation of ML-DSA and other signature schemes • quantum-resistant alternatives for validator signatures and VRF functions
The strategy reflects a gradual and risk-managed approach. Rather than replacing proven cryptographic systems immediately, Algorand aims to build a cryptographically agile network capable of adapting as quantum computing threats evolve. Blockchain
