You know those books that you are just so sad to be finished with? The ones you wish could go on and on forever because you always want to be inside that book? This was one of those books for me. I’ve often wished that someone could invent some kind of way that you can read a book for the very first time again. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE rereading, seeing all the little clues and hints, watching everything unfold again, the characters becoming so familiar they feel like family? I live for that shit. But this was one of those books where I just wanted to be able to experience this whole thing from the beginning all over again. It’s got everything I love, a healthy relationship between equal partners that isn’t perfect but strives to be the best it can be, a capable and strong female protagonist, loveable and engaging support characters, a badish-guy-turned-good love interest and an awesome story line that kept me hooked. This series made my heart swell, then tore it to shreds, then sewed it back together, then set it on fire. I don’t know if I just enjoy pain? Or what it is that makes me love authors that hurt me this way but it is what it is and I can either look deeper into my psyche to find some deep underlying reason or I can do the easy thing and accept it and move on, so that’s what’s up I guess.

Who I recommend this book to: all of you, everyone of you must suffer the way I have suffered.

You see, when I came up with the gold rose I had this idea in my head that it would be a rarely bestowed gift on only the very best books. What I didn’t factor into this was how much I love books and how many books I consider to be the very best books just because they make me happy. So oh well, it now just means these books are my favourites

The Vaeyu leader of Kavria

War hero - his leadership skills were well known before, but his abilities turned the tides of the war, stabilizing Kavria’s victory.

Abilities: Ice breathing dragon transformation, wind and water elemental-based hand-to-hand combat.

Needs solitude during free time. Aldrick can be likable and charismatic, but he needs plenty of time to recharge.

He looks intimidating but he’s actually very shy and soft-spoken

Aldrick prefers full transparency. He doesn’t like hiding things, lying, or deceit. These are qualities he despises in other people.

Gets up before the sun and he likes it. 

Can appear stoic and cold

When he’s disappointed in you, it’s like when your parents are “not mad, just disappointed”

Mood: drinking tea and enjoying the peace during the hour just before dawn
