Honestly, I feel so badly for Alderfur! I really really like her character! Someone who allowed her job to mostly consume her identity now have everything she cared for stripped away! To be a cat that held herself to such high standards and with what she thought was a strong grip on her emotions to wake up realizing she murdered someone and to not really understand WHY or HOW that happened. Her confusion during her moments of clarity! Oof!!!

And I don’t think she was a bad cat to feel the way she did, feeling frustration longing and jealousy are normal. Emotions can’t be helped but what matters is how we respond to our feelings, and to have that choice in response stripped from her is so violating!!! Ah!! To have her own vulnerable negative emotions preyed upon as something to be twisted and used against her clan mate! I think even more terrifying for someone like Alderfur who values self control so much! To have her careful discipline, a core part of how she defines her worth, taken from her and to lash out so disastrously…

And that’s if she actually had any control! She might not have had any control or say!!! Right now the narrative is heavily implying she was possessed!! If she hadn’t been possessed and not just heavily influenced then that’s even scarier, to have her bodily autonomy taken from her, her claws and even her voice used to make her a murderer. To be abandoned by her clan and betrayed by her body puppeted by someone else. In which case would mean she had been framed and as much a victim as Primrosetuft. (I also really like Primrose, I’m not going to bat for Alderfur because I’m glad she killed Prim, not that case! But honestly being in starclan and still connect with those she loves vs exiled in pain and having lost everything she cares about and having to continue living with that- Alderfur got the worse end of the stick, especially if she hadn’t been in control of her own body!) The tragedy! It’s so good! Terrible, but so good!! (I won’t even get into my Fawnstar / Alderfur thoughts or I’d be here all day but ah! They must miss each other terribly but also feel so wholey betrayed by one another! Friendship is SO good in warrior cats comics and those two are just!!!)

This is all speculation of course! I’m just giving my two cents! I just saw a lot of people hating on Alderfur on comicfury saying she deserved to die and it made me defensive lol >< ! (Especially when I didn’t see anyone saying that they wanted to see Rowanbark die for his crimes when he killed Swirldrop (that’s a good thing btw, I don’t think either cat deserves comments like that!) Where are all my problematic girly fans? And I might totally be off the mark!! She could be totally evil! That’s ok! It’s your story and I am here for the drama! But, at least with the information we have now I don’t think that she deserves that hate… actually your honor I think my client is a little kitty and should not be held in contempt by the court for a little oopsy daisy, I think that my client is innocent :3 but I’m bias lol ;)

I hope we get to see her around! With everything going on I doubt she’ll get the chance but I’d love to see her figure out who she is without her clan. To redefine her identity find a life worth living for herself! The feeling of shame betrayal loss and having to rebuild from the ground up. It’s very fun to speculate about! Great job with the story!! I look forwards to seeing how it all plays out!! :D

I read this ask the first time and just had to sit there a minute speechless because YESSS!! SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS. This analysis is SO GOOD. I won't comment directly on specific parts to avoid spoilers, but a lot of what you said hit the nail on the head ;) What I will say though is that we will see more of Alderfur's story in the future!

ALSO FOR REAL. Where are my women's wrongs fans?? I have absolutely nothing against anyone who straight up hates Alder for what they've done, but like you said there aren't many comments against Rowanbark.. Though I'm sure a lot of that has to do with seeing more of Rowan's inner thoughts before and after the murder.

I honestly wish I had included more build-up throughout the comic, but since this is my first time doing anything like this I am very much learning as I go and didn't start including a lot of extra story stuff until semi-recently. I love Alderfur so much and may do a small side thing focusing on everything leading up to events… BUT for now I had to draw something to show a peek into her inner turmoil <3

Most people would likely be surprised at this song choice for her, but honestly the lyrics seriously fit her so well gahhhh…

Alderfur is very strict and does things by the book. She doesn’t take shit from any cat and has a disdain for laziness and softness, valuing strength and drive the most. Alderfur is absolutely what would be considered a hardass and took their deputy position very seriously. Every cat has to contribute and slackers should be reprimanded. Her hot temper and sharp words rubbed a lot of the clan the wrong way, but up until the incident every cat trusted them to keep a tight and smooth running ship. Patrols were neatly organized right at dawn every day, rain or shine, and their well planned hunting patrols always kept the freshkill pile full. Alderfur is the kind of cat that throws herself entirely into their work. Her attention to detail and need for constant productivity meant that they weren’t super close to many cats throughout their life, much to her dismay. Her closest friend was Fawnstar due to working in close proximity with her daily, but they also highly respected her and were fiercely loyal, even if she didn’t always agree with the more laidback style of leading a clan Fawnstar has. Alderfur was always interested in Haybrook because of his loyalty, physical strength, and calm demeanor. She always believed he deserved an equally strong partner and despised how carefree and gentle Primrosetuft was, having the opinion that she encouraged a lazier lifestyle instead of having an ideal strong drive. Alderfur’s concealed loneliness and extreme bitterness untimely led to the events that occurred this past moon.. which will be expanded on later :3c
