The AkuRoku Big Bang will be released - it's the biggest turn out over the past 5+ years it's been running.

There will be art. There will be fics. There will be rejoicing.

The ship is not, and will never be dead.

This is a gentle reminder for those who don't like the ship to mute and block the tag for your own sanity. Stay out of the tags. Let people have their fun.

Fandom is about spreading joy, not tearing each other down.

On one side we have people going on about how dark and gross and wrong it is. and MAYBE it's okay if you ship it. But only if you acknowledge that it's dark and gross and wrong. How dare you try to frame this ship as anything other than that.

On the other side we have people who actually understand this is fiction and they can engage with it however they want. and who are mostly trying to explain their side of things and defend themselves.

Seriously, some of the anti-Akuroku posts are acting like just talking about Akuroku positively, putting it out there on the internet, is an attack. But it's pretty clear who's doing the attacking. One side wants to ship in peace, they're not trying to convert anyone. They just hope that with enough explanation maybe the other side will understand. The other side, however, would prefer they not exist. The only compromise is "allowing" Akuroku to be shipped in the context of it being 100% non-canon and predatory, and thus you have to like. Ship it secretly behind closed doors. Admit to shipping it or trying to frame it any other way and YOU'RE the creep apparently. Because in present-day fandom shipping crimes are far worse than actively antagonizing real people. Where did we go wrong.

(this isn’t a blanket condemnation, this is just me talking about my personal experience)

(for the record I have very involved, responsible parents. it’s not like people weren’t telling me that’s wrong and unsafe)

If I want to play in an era of canon that existed before certain reveals ruined the reputation of my first OTP, I don’t see how that’s annoying. And it’s not even on the same level as a headcanon; look up Fanon Discontinuity on TV Tropes for many, many more examples. Oh look, there’s even an entry for Kingdom Hearts on there, neat.

The point is, I’m not trying to make the ship “more tolerable,” I’m just holding to my original interpretation from when I played KH2 for the first time. And no matter what anyone says, you’re not going to convince me that that’s wrong.

Me: *ships 15 y.o. Roxas and 17 y.o. Axel even harder*

Still waiting on a canonical age for either one of these two. Besides, if Roxas is “one,” then isn’t Axel “ten”? But no one ever calls Axel a ten-year-old. Wonder why? 🧐
