Headcanon time inspired off some ghost king Danny fics I've read
Most of the time, Phantom still looks like himself after winning the items of power. He doesn't throw his weight around in that way. I think maybe people would wonder why he doesn't do that, and maybe one of team phantom would ask.
It's because of what the crown and ring do. When Danny summons them, he has access to power beyond his wildest imagination, right at his fingertips. And though the king can influence the Realms, it is not unconscious.
When Danny manifests his symbols of power, he looses himself to the vastness of the Realms, an entire other dimension that is a bit too fond of it's king. And I imagine prior mind control/body stealing trauma makes him very reluctant to do so. This along with giving the crown the ability to command other ghosts, makes it a very dangerous power to have, in the hands of the person most cautious to wield it.
Makes him the most perfect candidate, despite his young age.
