Just like comparing motives- if we think klavier did it, it would get him an easy win against phoenix, who is almost undefeated and who has caused that prosecutor's office a lot of headaches before (consider the atmosphere there when prosecutor's gambit is like a week earlier in the timeline)

If kristoph did it it was because... spite toward zak and envy and contempt toward phoenix? Imo klavier has the stronger motive

Also law enforcement not launching an investigation of who commissioned the forgery (which I believe would be an obstruction of justice change maybe?), more obviously points to the culprit being someone in law enforcement

A prosecutor doing this sort of thing is more in line with Phoenix's experiences up to that point

And then after the trial where they are not able to give Klavier the win, he completely fucks off for seven years, while Kristoph helps Phoenix and befriends him at his lowest

Klavier easily could have gotten that nail polish bottle from kristoph to give to Vera, and Vera could have easily mistaken a picture of kristoph for klavier

The rationale for keeping an eye on/ recording Kristoph remains the same-- he would be phoenix's most likely source of information on Klavier during that time

idk this is my best explanation for how Phoenix could have talked to Vera and apparently linked Kristoph to the forgery so early on, do nothing about it for years, and then be baffled about Kristoph's motive for killing Zak. Like if Phoenix had suspected that Kristoph had commissioned the forgery and was Zak's previous lawyer, even if he was shocked at Kristoph committing murder, I don't know why he would be questioning Kristoph about his motive. Unless its just the fact that murder is pretty drastic to cover up for commissioning a forgery.
